Yeah, and you know, this “Celestia raised Spike” idea was ONE of Faust’s ideas, so she told that none of her ideas were meant to be considered canon, at all.
 
It does not make Celestia a mother to any new-born creature or had those “motherly” moments, you don’t do that, especially since it isn’t the same species or when she only looking after it for someone else. Faust never even said anything that “Celestia is Spike’s mother”, either. The only thing Celestia did that involved raising him was only to make sure he was just fed, that’s it. Twilight was meant to look after him herself only if she was old enough, and Twilight’s parents could’ve been the ones who took care of him, that could’ve been one of Faust’s ideas, as well.
 
Actually, how come Celestia was able to do this “letter sending” ability to Spike when Faust said that dragons were mysterious and ponies knew nothing about them? And WHY him? Doesn’t it make more sense and smarter for Twilight to handle the letters herself since she’s a unicorn/alicorn and Celestia’s student after all? Imagine when there’s a vital situation and Twilight need to report to Celestia, but can’t because Spike’s not around.

It’s hard to say at this point (season 4 may elaborate).
 
All we know is that the original idea was that since ponies no next-to-nothing about dragons, that Celestia apparently took care of him and taught him that letter-sending technique with his fire.
 
But Lauren said that the idea might get scrapped since she left the show since:
 
A.) Twilight was the only one who gave spike presents on his birthday, as mentioned in the Secret of My Excess (if celestia was his mom in canon, she’d probably get him something too, but he said it was always just twilight, implying Celestia never celebrated it with them)
 
B.) Spike, in Dragon Quest, asks Twilight where he came from. Not Celestia, not Velvet, only twilight. And she said he was given to her as an egg, meaning that once hatched he has been with her (that must’ve been rough).

Wasn’t Twilight Velvet involved at some level?
