Indeed, Twilight was a whiny, antisocial marechild before she was forced to completely change her personality over the course of a single evening to keep Nightmare Moon from taking over the world, while Shining Armor was an awkward nerd who just so happened to go to school with a ditzy love princess who liked awkward nerds.
 
All of the evidence points to Velvet really being a pretty mediocre if not lousy mother, especially in Twilight’s case, since they only received their virtues, talents, and careers after they left her.

Either way, Celestia works almost exclusively by putting people in the right place at the right time, with the right tools to do the right thing, and lets them figure it out for themselves; Twilight Sparkle surely wouldn’t have grown up into the kind of Pony who could qualify for the Big Promotion if her mother hadn’t raised her right.

That depends on how deep one thinks the “Celestia planned all this from the beginning” rabbithole goes, though; if she’s been setting this up since before Twilight 2.0 was born, it’s still possible Twilight 1.0 was in on it somehow, and not every bookworm has a Junior Alicorn for a foalsitter. Cutie marks mean Ponies are literally ass deep in destiny-related magic, and some of those creepy Celestia Spycam panels from Magical Mystery Cure were from before Sparklebutt got hers, so there’s no tellin’ how long Celestia’s been at this.

Bad Moms

Rainbow’s mom is not included because her mom doesn’t love her, and Rainbow was abandoned as a foal.
 
Then she was found by Muriel, who lives in the middle of Nowhere, with her husband, Eustace Bagge. But creepy stuff happens in Nowhere.

..Shouldn’t the “Mom Six” be the moms of the mane 6? Kinda missing Dash and AJ’s moms for that. Yes I’m aware AJ’s mom is probably dead, but flashbacks are a thing.
