10 year old necro, and as an anon as well.
Jesus F. Christ on a buttered biscuit…
Hilariously Eddie Murphy did get made up like a white old man in it, sense he played multiple roles in it.
Here is a test akin to the bedschel test. take a bunch of movies that take place in either New York or California. Then count the number of characters that are white, and characters that aren’t (of the non white take spacial care of how many are Asians or latin). Then compare the ethnic ratios to the actual statistics of these cities. You will find that there are way more white characters than there should (and remember the people making these films live in those cities).
Bison: Natives
Zebra: African
The other sapient races may be interchangeable with other ethnicity. Such as griffons, Diamond Dogs, Minotaur, Changelings, and mules.
In my headcanon, ponies are either Europeans or Asians(with slight characteristic differences from their European counterparts, such as in unicorns with a forward curved horn and pegasi having broader wings than the the Western ones. Earth ponies look practically the same.) There maybe more others as well. Unless the show says so.
Ah, that’s what it’s called? Good to know!
Actually, Rarity’s accent is what’s known as “Mid-Atlantic”, which is an invented accent created by American aristocrats and performers in the 19th century in order to make themselves sound more “cultured” to the British (English) upper-crust. It’s essentially a cross between generic American and “BBC English”. Actors on both sides of the Pond used it through the late 50’s to make themselves more understandable and not give away their local origins (several famous actors from the silent era failed when talkies came because they had thick accents). The accent died out after WWII for various socioculturohistorical reasons and very few people today learn it unless they’re doing stage acting; the last holdouts tend to be Old Money families in the Northeast (John Kerry uses the accent).
As for humanizations of the Ponies… I envision them all as White (except Zecora). I have been very open about this, I’m not sorry for it, and I won’t change. If it makes me racist, so be it. My response: I grew up in a town that was (& to an extent still is) very White. White is the “default normal” for me, & it can help me better identify with the characters. But that’s my perspective; I won’t stop anyone else from envisioning them differently. BUT, if you’re going to make a Black character, learn to complement your damn colours.
Also, like I’ve pointed out before, nearly every artist who “rainbow coalitions” the ponies, I’m convinced, is a White American who’s terrified of being seen as racist.
Like someone much cleverer than me once said, “Everyone’s a little bit racist.”
Huh, I never realized her accent was “Middle-American,” or whatever you call it.
Originally, she was going to have an English accent, but admittedly that would’ve been a bit cliche’ for her type of character.
What are you talking about? I see them put alot of ethnic diversity in movies, and TV.
Heck, they put a black guy in “Robin Hood,” and such before.
Huddah.
Are you a Sniper now?
Sorry mate, the only other brony I know isn’t really interested in humanizations.
You didn’t have any comments or anyone to tell about them?
The best I got they are both stereotypically heavy drinkers . . . And crazy . . .
Then why is Pinkie often portrayed as Russian? I tend to also think her as Irish.
And you can still draw better looking humans than I can.
And I’m drawing since I’m three.
Cool. Just remember that I’m still new here, okay?
It’s probably the whole crazy scientist vibe she has going.
As for me, yes, I do see them all as different variations of Caucasian. Especially Twilight, and I blame that on Tara’s voice acting career. That voice is token nerdy white at this point. However, while I see them as that, I keep my mouth shut about anyone who does some differently. I only really ge bugged when someone tries forcing diversity to piss off those who are more “vocal” about they’re preferences.
