My whole life has been as an artist, or surrounded by artists, or working for artists, and one thing is always true. Art Crawl fixes all. No one has any money, until Art Crawl. Then everyone has pockets full of wadded up $20 bills, which they use to pay for the work you did for them last Art Crawl, so you’ll do more work for them this Art Crawl. Bob’s Burgers did a good job with that concept. I think they really captured it.
XD
But yeah, feast and famine is the name of the game. And a lot more famine than feast, usually.
both Ruby and Adagio trying to get along, and both fucking up and failing
Rather than fucking up, perhaps they should fuck?
there is also an element of truth to it
Very agreed.

Story spoiler: I don’t want Ruby to be someone you can’t like
She has big boops, how could we not like her? (way to drastically oversimplify things, eh?)
Though I do note that many French wines I’ve seen do still bill themselves as specific varieties, like cabernet or pinot noir, but I don’t know if those are purely that or are also partly blends.
According to Wikipedia, that font of all knowledge: “Traditionally, many French wines have been blended from several grape varieties. Varietal white wines have been, and are still, more common than varietal red wines.” Which is pretty much what I thought I’d been told. (incidently, there appear to be no less than 7 different grapes called “Cabernet”. Who’da thought.)
I look forward to reading Ruby’s (wine) opinions on (wine) music varietals (wine).
I am like with with my friends and my comics.
Also, I love love love that Ruby’s worried about whether Adagio is just into Peach for the happy bouncy times, and is just going to mooch off of him to support her music. Or if this is something she’s willing to work to turn into a ‘real life’.
I’m drawing from some experience here. I’m not a musician, but my father was. So I have…feelings about this particular prejudice.
But on the other hand, there is also an element of truth to it. Except for the few at the top, the pay is generally not good, and really inconsistent, and it is NOT stable. I remember that my father’s advice was “you shouldn’t become as musician as your job unless you can’t not do it”.
The very concept that being a musician is no way to build a life - by itself - is a whole discussion, but that Ruby (wine) is worried about that FIRST, instead of just getting to know Adagio as a person first, is telling.
Yeah, a bit of classism there. But the sort of classism that is a combination of actual concern, and not having examined or investigated prejudices you didn’t realize you had. Which is the kind that can be educated away, if the person is willing to listen.
Story spoiler: I have a tough balance here, because in this episode, in the coming pages, my aim is to show both Ruby and Adagio trying to get along, and both fucking up and failing, in their own different ways. I don’t want either of them to be “the bad guy”, and I don’t want Ruby to be someone you can’t like, even if she has flaws. Hopefully by the end readers will feel that she’s okay, even if she might need to learn a bit about the lives of other sorts of ponies she hasn’t been exposed to. *fingers crossed*
Well anyway, they have multiple varieties at the vineyard. :)
That did get me wondering, do vineyards normally have just one variety? Are there advantages to having more than one (like spreading out the harvest because they ripen at different times, or some varieties doing better with lots of sun on a south facing slope, and others with less sun on north facing slopes)? For some reason I’m under the impression that most French wines are blends of different grape varieties, and the single grape style is a California thing.
I have at least been to a few that have multiple varieties of grapes and make a number of different types of wine. I don’t know much about French wine though. I’m more familiar with American wine. (Cross pollination is apparently a concern, though, I believe)

Also - yes - very good, that’s exactly my experience hanging out with friends who make wine. It’s like hanging out with a carpenter - everything is about wine. Everything. If you think it’s not about wine, you’re not listening well.

Meanwhile, I’m looking forward to see where this sequence goes. Will we learn what happened to Peach’s dad? Will Dagi be offered a regular steady job as Gemstone Hills spokesperson? Will Stellarator surprise us with an unexpected plot twist?
Tune in next week to find out! Same pony time, same pony channel!
@AndwhatIseeisme
Of course not! That’s why the ponies named Granny Smith and Macintosh are only allowed to grow one type of apple each and Rainbow can’t be responsible for any other kind of weather.
And Berry Punch is well known to love wine, which is made from grapes, not berries.
…and I just looked it up, and apparently grapes technically are berries. >.<
Well anyway, they have multiple varieties at the vineyard. :)
Hmm. Thinking about it, we did meet Peach while he was tending bar, and Stellarator mentioned on the last page that wine is the family business… Seems to add up. Perhaps the family actually owns that bar?

So…how long before mom asks her son about that collar he’s wearing? ;)
The line about the wagon reminded me of how I got my niece a red wagon for her 2nd birthday. Because, I felt, every kid should have a little red wagon growing up.
Hmm, Ms Cabernet has a rather difficult hair style. I wonder if she’d benefit from a hairband or barrettes or something to help guide her hair around the ears. She should go talk to Rarity.
