Description

I always kept sketches to myself, except sharing it personally with friends, because I wanted to only upload finished drawings. Now I think: why actually? I never aim to be a content creator or serious artist but draw or prompt from time to time and share if I want to share something.
So here is a shading practice sketch of a Luna bust that I did to prepare myself for the line sketch for WojTek-ツ. I think it’s worthy enough to upload on its own. I hope it makes someone happy, even if it would be one person (^▽^)

I remember pulverizing charcoal and rubbing that on paper long ago but I didn’t do it here. Luna’s head is a bit larger than my thumb so it’s all really small for me to do the shading with that method but I will remember using it for larger backgrounds. Thanks for the advice! ^^

Geez, what an awesome dad giving art advices. He is a real one!

The other trick I do for an almost same effect is to sharpen a pencil‘s tip and with a piece of cloth or even paper to swipe around the small pieces of the tip where you want to shade carefully like I did with my Flutters art.

thank you for noticing! My father tought me that if you don’t want to see pencil hatches you must press as light as possible and take your time layering the graphite on the paper. The rest I figured out by experimentation. But it takes a long time indeed, especially the nightsky to be dark and overall have the same tone! That’s why I pressed a bit harder and made longer strokes in the end to make the effect of pointing all the hatches to the moon.

You’re right! Every next drawing I try to do something I haven’t done before: poses, additional characters, shading and such. Right now would be the shading, drawing clouds and I’m working on drawing my OC in a flying pose where I want to give a lot of attention to her wings.
Thank you for your comment!

I think sharing is great for feedbqck and stuff… even if you don’t plan to be a professional artist, id you enjoy drawing, why not seek a way to improve yourself?
Even if you keep this only as a hobby… people pour a lot of energy (and time, and sometimes money) to improve in what they love to do.
