I’m currently recovering from the ablation treatment that was done to my spine in the hopes of reducing some of my pain. The injection sites themselves are still quite sore and tender, and I was told to take it easy for a while…
So, because it would be too difficult to work on commissions requiring delicate line art and coloring, I instead just did some sketch work…
And, as I was, I had a thought run through my head randomly.
“Hey, the pony fandom seem pretty lukewarm on the latest shows. I hear lots of bronies talking about the days of the Mane 6.”
Then I thought, “You know, RWBY was gaining traction around that same time. I wonder what the girls would look like if they were redesigned as shonen battle manga waifus?”
This is the result.
Twilight is of course the big caster of the party, but I really had no idea how to dress her. Originally I had thought of basically dressing her up like an off-brand Sailor Moon, but that didn’t really gel with her personality. She’s not a ditz or a clutz, and given her originally somewhat gloomy personality, it occurred to me that she’d look better in black than white; so her entire top turned into that black sorceress’ bodice. I also had a thought of giving Twi more of a Luke Skywalker kind of arc, where she would be tempted by power, as all good heroes are, which is why her eyes invert when she uses her full spell power.
