@Scrounge Gilda would be an angel! Such a sweet sweet angel. And Zecora a golem.
Much like the skin colours going unnoticed such things would be treated totally as normal.
@HamburgerTime
I think EG Zecora would be a problem. Zebras aren’t technically ponies, so she shouldn’t be the same species, but there’s no other species humans consider themselves equal with, so there’s nothing else to make her in a non-fantasy world. (If it WAS a fantasy-style world, they could make Zecora an elf, but the EG-verse is a mostly-normal world save for technicolor skin tones.) And for Gilda, it’d be even worse…
You know, we could always just think of it as each species transforms into a specific counterpart.
Pony = Hume
Dragon = Dog
And so on…
I mean, it kind of makes sense, in a way. Ali/Unicorns seem to lose their horn and magic, so it only makes sense that some species also get nerfed when going through the portal, one way or another. It’s just tough luck that what Spike lost was the abiltiy to speak (or did he?).
Also, just think of it in the same way that people get transformed into various things when world-jumping in Kingdom Hearts. I didn’t see anyone complain when in Pridelands, Sora turned into a lion while Donald and Goofy just turned into a bird and turtle, respectively. Or when Sora was the only merman in the group when they visited Atlantica.
@Background Pony
So I can invade equestria and terrorise it by gathering up all those disgusting mutts and throw them through the portal in batches of 100?
Gotta say I suddenly like the portal idea now. Muah hah hah >;3
I’m going to sleep now, but before I do, I’ll say this.
I’m not whining or bitching about this (at least I’m not intending to), and I’m not trying to cause “drama”. I’m just saying that this upsets me about the upcoming movie on an intellectual level, and why it does.
@Abarekiller
Technically, you’re right. The mirror works differently on different species I guess (thus why twilight’s a human, and spike’s a dog when they enter the mirror).
But still, since this is only a spin-off of the actual show, and in the actual show he does do a shit-ton of stuff, I feel that it’s only right to make him something better than a dog.
If he was a pet “Just for Sidekicks” wouldn’t translate very well.
@Background Pony
Still. It’s the principal of the matter. That people value Spike so little that they’d call him a PET, rather then a little brother or something.
…I was thinking Gilda would be more along the lines of a harpy…

Some folks think real world dolphins and squid are sentient.
If it helps, just think that the reason so many species with civilizations in Equestria is because of the influence of magic.
The alternate world is supposed to be kind of mundane, so multiple sentient species to coexist in a civilziation would seem implausible.
A Platypus.
Who also happens to be a secret agent.
And every day, Cadence tries her best to bust Celestia and Luna, only to fail. :(

We are totally going to get peanut butter product placement out of this. MARK MY WORDS, DB, MARK MY WORDS!!!

That’s not true. He’s not annoying, and a lesser species is not accurate for him at all.
Again, I guess when he went through the mirror, it may have had a weird effect on him.
They probably won’t appear since they were one-time characters. Plus they were pretty flat.
Discord would be part of the Toaster master race.
I’m not whining or bitching about this (at least I’m not intending to), and I’m not trying to cause “drama”. I’m just saying that this upsets me about the upcoming movie on an intellectual level, and why it does.
Because he’s a sentient character. Would that make Zecora not human? Or Gilda?

now the question is…what is Discord?
Yeah, exactly.
Yeah, that way it just shows that it’s the weird way the mirror works, rather than what he’d be in an actual human (humanish?) world.
But still, he plays such a large role in the show, it seems that as a dog, he’s more limited, to certain tasks.
That’s why I’d be okay with that. Or at least MORE okay with it.
If you look closely at the trailer, he does seem to join her, and ends up that way.
Though it raises the question that when a pony goes through, they become human, but when a dragon goes through, they’re a dog?

Judging by the fact that he didn’t talk once in the trailer, leaves me with a horrible feeling.
Plus, whether or not he talks, doesn’t change the fact that he’s still a dog.
