Yeah it was pretty bad episode. I was on /mlp/ yesterday (for like 4th time in my life) and some guy posted a link to the little thing that allowed you to rank all the MLP episodes by comparing the two of them at one time.
“SAYS” was last in the overall count (at least at the time when I last checked). yeah it even beat the two other MW episodes (they were next on the list).
The fact that it was intended for another pony just makes it worse for some people it seems. I agree it wasn’t very well thought up. There’s a reason why Corey powell’s OC is a dragon. She wrote much better Spike episode.
They wrote everyone out of character anyway, why didn’t they just pull a 180 on Rarity and write her in somehow? We already had an Applejack episode.
The writers were clearly working on a time and creativity constraint and did a shitty job.
Don’t ask me. That’s what happened. Rarity would treat Spike too badly so this was changed to AJ. Probably since they rarely get her to do wrong in the show.
If they’d gone with Rarity the fact that William wrote the script would cause another unwanted outrage because people like to rage about everything.

So Merriweather wrote a character as a bitch and the writers decided to change characters rather than change the story which they had to do anyway because they changed characters.
