Oh, I see now. Yeah you covered all the points.
Very true, I mentioned that in my original comment.
Yea, and she also looks like a giant pony in a 2 ft tall room.
I agree with some of what you said, there’s definitely an attempt here to add lots of detail. Unfortunately adding lots of detail to a picture that’s broken at the fundamental levels of proportion and anatomy is going to just make it look more off-putting. I wholeheartedly disagree with two points though, specifically what you said about the legs and mane/tail. The lighting on the mane and tail makes it look like plastic, not like “individual strands”. Especially compared to the amount of detail put into the shading and lighting on say, the diaper. I believe what you’re looking as is the stray lines from the very sloppy line work, but since those “strands” can be seen coming off of other objects it’s most likely an unintentional effect. Not that there’s anything wrong with sloppy lines if that’s the style or level of finish desired, but it’s certainly not intended to make the mane look better since it isn’t only being used there. The legs, especially that front leg, not only look unnatural in proportion and anatomy, but don’t seem to connect properly at the hip in the case of the hind legs. This is a problem that often happens if you draw a diaper, loose clothing etc. on a character but don’t draw the underlying anatomy first. It makes the legs look stuck on rather than actually being connected to anything. Follow the line of her body, and imagine where it would be under the diaper, and then look at where the legs are by comparison- it makes no sense. I’m not really sure if the length of the legs is stylistic or not, but she looks more proportioned to the princesses in the show rather than her normal design (longer limbs, thinner bodies, longer necks) and I think it really helps to make that front leg look wrong. I think the art here shows a lot of talent but a huge lack of skill, I hope the artist works on trying to improve because they have a ton of potential.
Rarity’s mane also seems to be more than just a generic solid object, showing signs of actually being multiple strands of hair.
Lots of detailed lighting, wish more artists would try stuff like this.
I agree. I’m not a fan of this art style.
