Ohh, okay, gotcha! I thought you were giving me critique on what was off with the other stuff in my gallery : P I’ll take that as a double compliment then, and try to hit that sweet spot again in the future for you! Thanks a bunch.

You’re interpreting the contrapositive somehow. I was speaking of artists in general as being disproportionate, and everything I listed was what I feel looks good about this changeling. When I said “curiously”, I wasn’t implying “bizarre”, I was saying that my inquisitive nature was piqued. Everything about this fellow is in a proportion and balance that catches my attention in a positive way, where my critical eye isn’t finding anything worth mentioning that could stand improvement. You created a natural beauty I can appreciate without trying to intentionally draw my attention to any particular feature.

Just to clarify, are you saying that all the things you listed are inconsistent across the gallery, or that you just don’t like the proportions? To say that I accentuate the aspects I like is definitely fair critique, I do, but I’m having trouble determining exactly what is “wrong” about each item.

For example, assuming you’re not just talking about consistency (which tbh would also be fair since my gallery is updated in spurts of 3-4 sketches every couple of months):

  • Head to Body ratio. Are you saying I draw heads too big, or too small?
  • Leg length and stockiness. Too long? Too thick? Too skinny? Too much weight towards the hoof?
  • Barrel ratio. Too stumpy? Too overexaggerated in the spine (this is definitely a case of, I like backs, I tend to overdo their curvature)
    etc. etc.

I’ll keep in mind that this guy seems to “click” right, and I agree, I’m actually really happy with how he came out. But I’m having trouble determining the specifics of your critique outside of “I don’t like thing.” Does that make sense? Thanks again!

I see a lot of disproportion in art, where artists inadvertently over-develop areas they’re more attracted to while neglecting other parts of the body. It’s not a bad thing, and is a prime contributor to what makes a particular style. But me, personally, I like an artist that puts everything in balance, and draws attraction from the whole of the subject, rather than using them as a mannequin to showcase the features they like most. Everything about this guy looks like it was drawn to complement every other part of him.

I appreciate the compliment! I’m curious what you mean by “curiously well-proportioned,” though. Most of what winds up on derpibooru are quick sketches or shitposts, so content is a bit skewed quality-wise, but I’m always open to hearing critique if you’re hinting that you’ve got some!

Looking through this artist’s work… That is a curiously well-proportioned changeling. I can’t quite put my hoof on what makes him a stand-out, but everything about him looks “right”.
