Just some food for thought. Perhaps we outta give it a chance. After all, if we go into it firmly believing it will be bad, we will always perceive it as such.

Bullshit, OP. I did not say FiM would turn out bad before seeing it. I didn’t have high hopes, considering what Hasbro had been doing to the franchise for the past decade, but I figured that with fans of the original working on it, it might be at least passable.

THIS atrocity, on the other hand … all available evidence says EG is nothing more than some highschool drama show using MLP as a ratings springboard. Unless/until something changes radically with regards to the design and concept, it’s not possible for EG to be anything but dumpster fodder.

Fucking mini-skirts. Weird boots. They all look pregnant or fat.
One of features of the show was to simulate situations that can happen in human world in ponyverse.
I dunno, this really does not look promising.
Also, Pinkie’s face. Just look at it.

100% agree. Unfortunately, I was one of those people who dislike bronies. Look at me now. I now save my judgements until I finally see/analyze anything.

Clock. Is. Ticking.
I’ve been saying this since I first heard about the rumors. Yeah, it looks hokey and stereotypical but come on. It’s like if you judged FIM based solely on the title card in the picture.

Actually no, I wouldn’t have said that at all. I’m one of those people that was told about FiM for the first time and was like “Sounds cool.”

Thread Starter - The evil council continuation

If we assume the high school concept is real, I feel more like they try to save a poor concept by adding ponies to it to give it atrificial popularity.

We’ve seen many teen high school sitcom, it is an already competitive market, plus lot of these show ended up being unpopular or or unnoticed as they can hardly get they own identity among the mass. So instead of just letting this concept being forgotten or remain in fanfic, they decided to create a new show with almost the same idea as so many before, a teen groups hanging around at school, and put ponies in it hoping it will make it succed where so many failed.

We can argue about whether or not mlp at first sigh seem to be a good idea. But we have to admit that at least it is somehow original. The only competition for a magical world with cute creature is actually care bears, but the cares bears were hibernating between two of their generation when mlp started.

I appreciate the logic of “watch before you judge”, but this image’s exact argument is condescending.

Not everyone went into FIM expecting to not like it. Because unlike with this spin-off there was no prior standard for it to meet, nothing for it to potentially ruin in any way.

Ain’t gonna happen and my evil side is in the high hopes this show fails hard.

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

I will admit, I wasn’t sure of the new MLP:FiM (though I didn’t her of it till after it was started and it was about 1/4 through the first season) my first thought when hearing about it was “great, another show about ponies”, cause I wasn’t a gen1, 2 or 3 fan (still not a fan of the originals), in 2010 I was 30, hunting youtube for some stupidly funny or good car vids (what can I say, I’m a gearhead), and saw this silly little 30sec clip of MLP:FiM, and had a good chuckle, then I watch the show, my thought after seeing the first 2 episodes, was “dam, this is good, its silly, makes me have a hearty laugh and it carries a strong point that friends are very important”

been hooked ever since

and I agree, IF the spin-off is good, run with it, if it sucks, either kill it or change it to make it good

Y’know, this reminds me of when Transformers Animated caught similar flak based on nothing more than its artistic style from its previews and that turned out alright in the end.

OP’s right, let’s just wait and see how it goes, first.

I know we shouldn’t judge a show before we see it, but it’s different when this new show is taking characters we’ve grown to love, and then fundamentally changing them. (The show itself doesn’t sound very promising either, but that’s neither here nor there.)

It’d be like if DC started publishing books where everyone in the batman universe were dogs, going to dental college.

Which, admittedly, sounds pretty cool…

But, you know, wouldn’t be so bad, except now these things are officially part of MLP. I know probably not FiM’s canon, but still part of MLP. Fanart, videos, and news from this show are now (barring a ruling otherwise) eligible to be posted on Derpibooru.

You can say this show won’t affect the real one, but for me and a lot of others, fan works and the fandom in general are a big part of our enjoyment of MLP, and I’m uneasy about what this show will do to that dynamic.

Note: I’m not actually one of those that would say this show is the end of the fandom or anything, but I’m just saying I’m not looking forward to this based on my understanding of the premise.
