For those who don’t get it, ultimate was booted from EVO at the time of this upload because it’s online was so ass that it was unbearable while them’s fightin herds online was pretty good. Which is honestly pretty pathetic on Nintendo’s part since they are the single richest company in Japan yet their online is held together with sticks and glue and TFH was an indie project.

The problem is that they encouraged such behavior. We have power-tripping people who have fans just because they are good at a game and many believe the “godhood” the have thrust upon them. And then, they take advantage of it.
 
The problem is that it’s easy as all heck to ensure no one is being abused inside of EVO, but they don’t bother. They merely hold the event and have “apology” cards at the ready should something happen. Seriously, it was in the span of 5 minutes that EVO suddenly had a card to post to say they were cancelling, as if they knew it was happening but made no moves to stop it.
 
Now I don’t have any proof myself that that is the case… But there are some telling earmarks here and there that not everything was just “oh no, who could have guessed?!”

It’s just ironic for people to laud EVO as such a big deal, and using it to bash one game, and try to make another look better (which is like schoolkids fighting over which Ninja Turtle is best) and this event proves it’s not a perfect event, nor that’s it’s important for a game to be in it. I just feel gaming events should unite, not divide, so I loathe the “SSBU VS TFH” crap.
 
If EVO continues, I hope they’re safer from now on for everybody, and the criminal activity is punished.

I’ve read/watched fighting game “experts” who have commented extremely positively on the tighteness of the game’s overall systems relative to other fighting games, more amused by the MLP connection, and only saddened by the small roster. Its the more common gamer that is taken the “hur hur its that mlp game, why should we care” attitude.

Well I don’t know what clique you hang compared to mine but those people are idiotic. And Smash has been controversial since forever. If it wasn’t smash vs TFH, it’d be smash vs Street fighter V or smash vs Mortal kombat eleven. Because Smash has always been a meme in the FGC. People just meme about smash’s status as a fighting game and always will, especially since its so popular. You shouldn’t pay it attention and just enjoy the game.

But… evo is the entire context for that picture. Thats the only reason you think theres a “rivalry” or why people “”“argue””” over it. Of course I have to explain it to you, since its why this picture exist. I was talking about people in general on other sites trying to pit both games against each other unironically, (some aren’t even joking) and I mean both butthurt SSB fans, and smug Herds fans, and I don’t like that, because I don’t want it turning people off giving “Herds” a shot, or getting angry at all SSB fans, or vice-versa, and such.
 
That’s all I was trying to say, I don’t get why you’re trying to make me out to be some crazed biased SSB fanboy, or something… You’re acting like I insulted your Mother.  
I don’t care about EVO, they can include, or not include whatever games they see fit, and let me state I agree SSBU’s online isn’t great, so I can understand the exclusion too. (But oddly some are acting like that makes SSBU a “bad” game, which I don’t get, and I’m just saying online isn’t everything to me.)

No, it wouldn’t. The number of real tourneys at EVO are really limited every year and it’s a gauntlet to get in (with MUCH MORE COMPETITION THAT YOU THINK.) The fact that you think TFH would enter normally is laughable, Skullgirls, which TFH is based on, hasn’t been in since 2013 and is only here for the same reasons TFH is in.  
By your description you seem to take EVO as some casual tournament, EVO is normally THE BIGGEST LAN TOURNAMENT OF THE YEAR, featuring the top players from around the world for a LOT OF MONEY (for a fighting game tourney). Players for whom being 15 miliseconds off ruin entire combos, the absolute best of the best. You saying that your online experience “isn’t perfect but still” does not matter, for these people playing offline and online is night and day, “apple and oranges” like you say.
 
The tournaments during the containment have completely different winners because the gameplay change so drastically when online. MKLEo, the Absolute best smash ultimate player, who won 17 tourneys out of 22 and was 2nd the 5 others, hasn’t won any tournament since online, sometimes losing in RO32.
 
Every single smash pro is criticizing the online tournament, it is that awful, there are a shitton of video on youtube talking about it (and criticizing characters like Sonic).  
Again, we are talking about PROFESSIONAL FIGHTING TOURNAMENT,which evo is the peak of, not your casual stuff,.  
THAT is why Smash isn’t at evo, they don’t want a repeat of previous tournaments the last two months , full of lag, cutoff, and people doing crazy stuff because of missed input due to input delays, so instead they took 4 games of the best netcode possible, using rollbacks, for the best input accuracy of players.
 
That is the ONLY reason TFH is one of the four game, and everyone knows this. We definitively won’t see it as a main event for EVO later, but we don’t care. The fact that TFH is at EVO, let alone one of the main tournament, is incredible to a degree you have no idea of, and we’ll enjoy every second of it. It’s also why everybody and their mother are memeing about Smash being completely absent, showing that the most important tournament of the year agrees that Smash’s online is terrible.
 
So no, nobody believes that TFH “dethroned” smash, but it sure is a lot funny to meme about it, enjoy the ride while it last, and if you’re mad that smash isn’t in, get mad at nintendo like everybody else, but please STOP TAKING THIS PICTURE SERIOUSLY. Thanks.

I’m not mad, and frankly, I wasn’t even talking about this picture specifically. I just don’t understand why some are unironically wanting to pit both games against each other. Even if SSB was allowed in, “Herds” would still be in, I’m certain, seeing as it’s a new Indie game.
 
Both are good games, and I was just stating below I was afraid people wouldn’t want to support “Herds” if it’s fans are bashing other fighting games constantly. I’m actually voicing support FOR the game.
 
And I admitted in another thread SSBU’s online isn’t “perfect,” but it’s still a great game too, (and yes, I’ve seen some unironically/unsatirically bashing SSBU, and not just for the online) but as I said I’m not a big fan of playing fighting games online, because most people online are either ridiculously good experts, or cheap. So it’s not really a deal breaker for me.  
And honestly, I don’t care for EVO anyways, so what’s included/excluded doesn’t even matter to me.

Holy hell whats with the mad smash guys in the commentary taking it to heart like that? It’s just a joke, do you guys really think we believe TFH will dethrone smash?

Most Smash people on twitter AGREED with evo’s decision and in fact are more sad that Smash’s hilariously bad netcode wasn’t humiliated at evo. See for example here.
 
A LOT of people in the FGC are making this joke, not just “bronies” (and a lot of TFH fans aren’t bronies.). Twitch was filled with normal fighting game streamers testing TFH with some titling it “let’s play the game that killed smash.” Same for plenty on twitter.  
It’s not like it’s an hard joke to make, “your face when a multimillion company got dethroned by a bunch of horses.” etc etc, you are making too much of a generalization and the wrong one to boot.
