Actually is was just about the right to sell cider.
They said they’d give up the farm, they never said they would leave Ponyville.
The FlimFlam bros take the most blame for taking the deal in the first place.
I already said, yeah, sure, they take some blame, but I still say Granny et al. were needlessly antagonistic to not at least try to negotiate, and then stupid for betting the farm.
And they actually straight-up lost, so the fact that they stayed in Ponyville is just illegal and a breach of contract.
Though who knows if that contract was actually legal in Equestria. Looks like it was.
Not saying they should’ve lost their farm, I’m saying they shouldn’t have agreed to such a stupid competition deal.

If the brother just offered their services instead of suggesting they get more money just like using the family’s apples, then maybe the family wouldn’t have been so inclined to disagree with them.
Like I said before, they are the schemers here.
I mean the issue is they didn’t try to negotiate. And nothing changes the fact that Granny’s the one who let them use Sweet Apple Acres apples so she could risk the farm when they could’ve just said “no” and been done with it - or even better, negotiated some more.
This have the most if not ALL of the blame. They were in the perfect position to say no when Granny made the bet. They could have simply suggested that they work out a different deal, specifically since they were the ones with the machine but didn’t have any apples.
But no, instead they agreed to the bet so they could get more out of it.
That fact alone shows that they were schemers right from the start.
I mean, Flim and Flam definitely have some share of the blame, no doubt.
Because they made it clear that they were going to get more money, and weren’t going to budge on the subject.
Stop putting all the blame on a member of the family when the antagonists are just as if not more guilty.
that’s the thing, they didn’t want to negotiate, it was either their way or the highway.
I was writing my comment before you posted yours.
You don’t know until you try to negotiate.
Granny Smith just got carried away, but you can’t make it sound like the Flim Flam Brothers are the ones who are the victims here, They knowingly set it up so they’d get more money. And it was pretty clear that they weren’t going to back down.
I mean, kinda true? Neither side tried to negotiate, but even AJ I think made some comment about Granny betting the farm.
I refer you to my comment below.
@Cirrus Light
So Granny Smith fucked over two salesponies into a life of scams. WOW.
They tried to scam the Apple family out of their land. It’s pretty well-established thar they were con artists from the start.
You seem to be forgetting the fact that the Flim Flam Brothers didn’t even bother trying to negotiate for a better deal. They made it explicitly clear that they’d be getting most of the payments no matter what.
Don’t go blaming someone else for the faults of another.
…You know the entire Apple Family are related to each other, right? What good would that do?
Damn, Granny, you’re evil!
Why do they keep resorting to scams? Why not try the cider machine again in some other corner of Equestria? There’s no need to scam. If the Apples don’t want it, some other apple family will. But it seems F and F are unable (or unwilling) to learn this simple thing. Their parents named them well.
Actually that’s kinda on Granny Smith. They didn’t even try to negotiate, and that’s rather annoying.
Instead of just rejecting the offer they could’ve said they needed a bigger share of the profits to stay afloat, and then Flim and Flam could’ve carefully gone over the math with them to make a win-win arrangement, where the increased productivity would mean more cider sold, and though the Apples would make less bits per mug of cider, the increased number of sales could’ve made them more bits ultimately, and Flim and Flam could’ve calculated where that’d be, and made a profit from anything more.
Heck, they could’ve said “after all the apples are used up, let’s take all the profits, you get what you normally get every year - plus fifteen percent! - and we’ll take the rest!” and made it a zero-risk investment for the Apples.
That’s honestly the most annoying thing about the episode. Everyone could’ve won…
And it’s basically Granny Smith’s fault.

elegant and manly <3
Their cider machine was a legit thing. It actually worked and the cider was good. Had they honestly teamed up with the Apples, both sides would have been swimming in cash in no time. But they got greedy.
So that’s it. They had their chance to be non-scammy. They blew it. Now scamming is all they have.
