I thought they specifically meant that it was tough to animate overlapping characters. Here they’re hardly obscuring each other since this isn’t a tight space at all.

Thread Starter - Artists you miss.

I remember they mentioning in the commentary that it was difficult to animate many characters on the screen at once in small spaces, like the scene in Rainbow Rocks when they were below the stage. Can’t imagine this scene, that has 9.
