To be fair, I have a bit of the same problem… I usually can’t draw pony legs with the right proportions, they’re always too long, too short, too fat, or too narrow. Though if I keep on erasing and redrawing, I eventually get the right shape and size.

The face and legs on 2016 look to be a downgrade. A rather awkward style that looks like if a different cartoon show tried to add a pony. Just looks off. 2018 really picks things up and looks great! The legs are perfect!

@TheDrizzle404 Yeah, I’m definitely feeling like I’m missing the mark on the eyes in this style, so that’ll have to be something that I work on. I don’t think the size of the highlights / shine on the eyes helped to minimize the “dead eye” effect either in this particular piece, haha. Good feedback on the horn as well- I was trying to use more intense highlights and shadows on the horn to show a constrast in texture between the fur on her body and the harder material for her horn, but I think with how textured her body, wings, and mane are it just ended up looking jarring and I’ll have to put more effort into showing texture next time and possibly tone down the shadows. Awesome critique, I appreciate the feedback.

The eyes need a bit of work. You can’t simply fog them over because it gives the impression she’s dead.  
In this style you might also need to notch the horn where the spiral meets the edge and give it some texture so it doesn’t look like plastic.  
I do like where you ended up with the legs and the cloth texture is pretty well done.

I have to agree with the “dead eyes” thing- really pushing myself to find a solid art style for my eyes this year, but these really weren’t my best work imo. The shadows were intentionally saturated and intended to show a soft cast glow from her mane. Overall I’m sorry that you don’t think that this piece is the best representation of my current skill level, but overall it was just a quick piece and I appreciate the constructive criticism to make the next quick piece better. :)

An unfortunate bit of your work to pick for 2018 in my opinion, from what I’m seeing the shadows are oversaturated and the eyes are dead.

That’s actually my least favorite style of all imo >< I don’t pull off a semi-realistic or anatomically correct style very well so that’s why I shifted away from it.

2016 style is much better IMO. 2018 is more advanced, but 2016 is just… better.
