Background Pony #C9E7
I’m wondering who the author on this comic was now? It was pretty well done. I was laughing pretty hard at the “..and you live with a purple magic pony” and “…he was hungggry for knowledge” bits. Then I read the last panel and… jeez, critical hit to the feels.

I prefer the Momlestia theory myself (semi-canon as it is). I also think the show presents a strong sibling dynamic between the two (which given Celestia’s motherly attitude towards Twi also fits the Momlestia theory well). However… there’s something particularly endearing about the idea of Spike secretly wanting Twi as a mother. I can totally get behind that head-cannon.

^ Well, it may not be so much the elite even as the general populous that Celestia has to keep in mind. Dragons are scary, and rightfully so, even if they are still young they are apex predators that can chew rocks like grass. Perhaps Spike is Celestia’s hope for a new level of understanding among ponies by showing them that dragons are not all monstrously evil.

Of course it could always be as simple as a matter of keeping him safe. Celestia is certainly no easy target, and Twilight is an immensely strong magic user, but Spike is relatively easy pickings for somepony who wanted more leverage in swaying Celestia’s judgment.

Maybe they provide the money. She’s characterized as somepony who will do anything for her subjects, and if it means dealing with intolerance so she can get bits to help everyone else, she’d do it. Also, she probably kept her raising Spike the pony way a secret.

I both like and find that theory discomforting. If it’s true, then it certainly is a heart warming thing to have Celestia provide some nurturing for Spike, seeing how unqualified Twilight is despite her love for him.

On the other hand, it worries me to think you’d be right about the Canterlot ponies. How much influence do these fuckers have if their prejudice is keeping Celestia from showing more affection for her son? And more importantly, why hasn’t Celestia just banished those worthless idiots?

^ I’ve always been fond of the Momlestia viewpoint myself. It makes sense that she would take care of a member of dangerous species that nopony has any information on. Of course they don’t act particularly close but I have a theory on that.

I’ve always chocked the lack of familiarity in their, rare, interactions as being political in nature. Ponies don’t like/trust dragons, especially snooty Canterlot ponies, so they keep it a secret form the generally public.

I Headcanon that Spike really wants a mother or even a father figure, but Twilight is completely clueless and unqualified to be a mom and doesn’t even realize how Spike feels. After all, Twilight is still learning friendship. Motherhood is a whole different barrel of fish.

I Headcanon that Spike wants to think of Twilight as a mother, but Twilight is grossly unqualified to be a mother and dosen’t realize how Spike feels. I mean, she is still learning friendship after all. Motherhood is a whole different barrel of fish.

Yeah, I know. That’s why I say “sort of” as a mother. Their canon relationship seems to me a weird cross of sister, mother, and teacher.

^ No, a lot of people do. I personally don’t see it in the show based on how they act towards each other but its a popular theory.
