No I understand why now. I just don’t see myself faulting another for failing to tag something even if it resulted me in missing out on something I wanted to see (or I suppose not wanting to see if it’s a tag you blocked that wasn’t included)

Because tags are there for searching and filtering. If some applicable tag isn’t there, then the image either isn’t visible to those who search for it, or visible to those who filter it, both of which are undesirable.
 
That said, best way to figure out tagging is to 1: check tag guidelines, 2: check other similar images’ tags (and especially tag changes), and 3: ask mods when principles change (for example, a year ago “pony” was an unused tag, nowadays it means “show-like, quadrupedal pony”, in line with “anthro”, “human(ized)”, etc, and needs to be tagged on everything. Similar with “mare”, the races, etc.

look, the only real problem with tagging comes from filters and the only time when I would count an uploader guilty of something like this, is if they avoid adding tags intentionally and just leaves everyone else to add them. Someone who adds pony, safe and maybe 1 character’s name, in an image that could have hundreds of characters.

I’m sorry if I’m not entirely privy to how every aspect of tagging works, but if I “ruin” it just by not properly tagging something, maybe I shouldn’t even try? But that’s a good point. I edit tags from time to time to help myself and the others, and it is not hard. 
If someone sees a mistake or a missing tag they have an option to correct that themselves and not just whine about it.
