A dao sword, a Chinese sabre, be a sword I picture for her. Fits her. It rock if she used one with her right hoof and a kukri knife with her left hoof. How when ponies need to walk on four legs? Her wings can help keep her upright.

Dash is so awesome, she can beat Pearl in a sword fight.
…maybeeee I’m exaggerating a bit, heh.

I don’t know what all you guys are talking about. That’s not a canon, it’s clearly a sword.

A ninja sword even, which is the best kind! They’re so sharp, they can even cut bullets in half!

Jeez, more?

Sounds like a bunch of linguistic pedantry to me. The point of saying something is non-canon in just about any fandom is that it’s not part of the, well, canon and thus the information, characterization, stories, etc contained in the non-canon material is not applicable or relevant to the actual canon, in this case the show canon if that’s a good way to word it. If something is being described as ‘non-canon’, nothing in them has any relevance or bearing whatsoever on the actual canon, and they aren’t a valid source to make any arguments from. At most, they can be used for personal headcanon if you happen to like something in them, but nothing more.

And whether you call it non-canon or whatever shouldn’t really matter much as long as the intended meaning is the same. I can’t say I agree with you considering the popular usage of the term when it comes to fandoms in my experience (it was so widespread you even felt the need to create a meme ranting about it, after all) is in fact more in line with what I’m saying, but whatever, again, it’s just linguistic pedantry.

I will say that it does in fact mean that the comics do not count, certainly not for anything to do with the show canon. They’re absolutely equivalent to fanfiction in relevance to the show’s canon and it’s characters, worlds, and so on. That’s not a value judgement on them (I’ve made those in other posts), or somehow saying they are illegitimate reading material, it’s just saying, that if say, you and I were debating something about a character from MLP, or the setting, or whatever, and you brought up the comics, I’d probably laugh in your face. Well, not really, I try to be reasonably polite, but obviously it wouldn’t be a valid or relevant source, and the information in the comics is worthless in a debate about anything other than the comics specifically. It would be like you were quoting a fanfiction to support your argument, to be frank.

Hopefully that makes sense. I don’t agree with your picture/argument, nor would I say it invalidates anything I’ve said in this comments section, regardless of what words you tack on to substitute for canon. I think it’s needlessly pedantic/purist to suggest people are using the word wrong though, especially when it’s clear that the popular usage of the word these days is pretty obviously not the one you’re pushing, at least from what I’ve seen. IDW is not canon.

I could say more, but to be honest this is already a wall of text in a conversation that should have ended many posts ago.

So much for that 😐😐😐

You literally do not know what you’re talking about. “Canon” does not mean “part of the franchise which you personally like and agree with and want to include”, it means “part of the franchise”. It has absolutely nothing to do with any relevance or connection to anything else in the franchise, or whether you like it or not; everyone– everyone– who pretends that some part of the franchise they dislike is “non-canon” is using the term incorrectly, in a transparent and obvious attempt to delegitimize something they dislike by declaring that it ~doesn’t count~. Adam West Batman and Christian Bale Batman and Ben Affleck Batman are all canonically Batman, regardless of how vast the differences are between the continuities in which they appear.

My point still stands that the comics containing the sword is irrelevant and is not a valid source
That is a correct statement; something which only happens in the comics or EqG cannot legitimately be used to support a contention about the show, because the comics and EqG occur in their own separate continuities, which do not– or at least haven’t yet– have any direct impact on the show’s reality. Do you see how easy it is to express that sentiment without making up your own personal incorrect definitions for words?

What do you mean? Just being pedantic about definitions or what?

EDIT: I read your picture, and it doesn’t change the fact that something being non-canon means that it’s irrelevant to the actual canon and cannot be used as an argument or reference for anything. Books, IDW, etc are non-canon, and the information in them is irrelevant in the same way as fanfiction or fanart; you can take headcanons from them, but they aren’t part of the canon like the show is.

My point still stands that the comics containing the sword is irrelevant and is not a valid source. Something being part of the same IP, of which even fanfiction technically is, does not make the information and stuff in said thing applicable or relevant to the source material in any way. Dunno if that’s a good way to word it, I’m tired.

You could potentially argue that the name of the board game specifically, Ogres and Oubliettes or whatever, was a very minor reference they decided to make rather than dream up some random new board game name, but the episode itself is not in the least bit inspired or similar to it other than containing a board game, and it doesn’t have any real relevance or somehow make it canon. Meanwhile, the comics and the show have completely different ideas on what Nightmare Moon is, as an example of actual significance.

Now please, stop being ridiculous. I’m tired, and don’t particularly feel like continuing this pointless conversation. Though if you absolutely need to, then at least PM me or something.

It is pretty hype, yes. Is this the first time we’ve seen weapons like these being used so directly? I know there are spears but we haven’t actually seen any spear fights or anything like that as far as I can remember. Obviously nobody will get hurt or anything, but it’s probably something they’d be hard pressed to show on TV with a TV-Y rating.

No it wasn’t, and no they aren’t canon, once again. I don’t see how Marvel/DC or anything I said about them is relevant to that. Either way, if you absolutely insist on continuing despite this dragging on for way too long, then PM me or something like Pagan suggested, this is totally derailing.

and again by you’re logic……the episode Dungeons and Discords was inspired from the comic issue Neigh Anything which by you’re Marvel/DC logic would prove yet again comic is cannon as well…..
