I doubt that many images were drawn just to upset people on one site… In fact, some of those pics look drawn by li’l kids or something, it’s not hard to find “badly-drawn” fanart online.
 
Heck, there used to be Derpibooru-hate sites & Tumblr blogs, and such dedicated to trying to make this site look bad by reposting badly drawn, vulgar, or controversial art/comments from this site to make us look bad.  
One even tried to take something I said out of context… Luckily, another Tumblr user called them out for that, and pointed out what I actually meant.

I bet half the Sonic crossover art was made specifically as a downvote troll.

Because what if they have a opinion? Regardless, filters save more pone lives everyday, so use them.

Yeah. I mean that’s true, but it’s not the type of artist I’m thinking about. In my experience the “I was trolling you lol” card is only pulled out after something has come to light to show said person didn’t know what they’re talking about.

The artist’s other work is my metric on whether they are downvote trolling or just a shitty artist: if their other work is good and their Sonic crossover is shite, then they’re a boring troll and should be downvoted. If their other work is garbage, they suck at art and need to draw more to get good. If it’s a well-drawn Sonic crossover image, then it’s just bronies letting themselves be baited.

If all else fails you can pretend the downvotes make you happy I guess. But it always struck me as a kid wiping their eyes and yelling “DIDN’T HURT!” when someone pulls out the “lol I’m trolling” card for getting downvotes or criticism.

If bronies didn’t flip out about Sonic crossovers, we’d have less of them. Artists know that a Sonic/MLP crossover is a nice way to be a downvote troll and bronies prove them right every single time.

This actually kinda has a point. If people did that, the Sonic spam mass upload floods would stop, just like the “Chikkun” ones.

XD, this happens often, believe me, but in my case, it’s the other way round: I miss many nice images for browsing only my viewed ones.  
But this doesn’t mean that what you and Mr. YumYum here, just below, state isn’t valid: “Filters: Use them”. Great slogan and the best way to avoid flamewars here.

And then it turns out I don’t actually have the tag blacklisted; I just never see that content because I rarely browse newest submissions beyond a few pages and usually just search for content. Whoops!

As Pagan said, and we can see here, in most cases the whining and moaning is deliberate. And that opens the door to people to post shitty crossover images. This coming from a Sonic (games, as a character, I like Tails. Never liked that 90s cockiness of the hedgehog) fan.

Well I don’t like any crossovers, so I blacklisted the “crossovers” tag.
 
But I guess some people would rather just whine and moan endlessly.

that’s a crap argument on an image site that tags heavily and encourages the use of filters to begin with. ignoring the tags and filters is a conscious decision to continue being exposed towards ‘things you don’t personally like’. if you’re inflicting the thing you don’t like on yourself, you’ve got no leg to stand on.

I think it’s human nature to be disagreeable towards things you don’t personally like. The majority of people don’t follow a “live and let live” philosophy.

Likely because that’s the only reason they stick around.

Well I’ve been try to tolerate the Sonic hate on this site for, what, 5 years now? Something has to be done about this. I’m sick of artists getting downvotes just because others disagree on something, even if the art itself is good. It’s not bait - it’s a legit question I’ve been trying to ask for a long while, and I could really use an answer after all this time.

While I do agree with your point, I can’t see this post as anything else than a bait to start a heated thread.
