I like to think Celestia saying “Contragulations” isn’t a typo on the author’s part; rather, the Princess is slipping in her composure, and nearly loses it when she gets to tell Blueblood that he’s marrying Mr. Ed.

Okay, this probably sounds silly, but I think I just now realised how it might fit together. With ambassadorial tasks, Blueblood can prepare in advance. We were shown he did just that. Maybe he’s really, really bad at interpersonal situations where he didn’t get to prepare beforehand. That, or he’s a shallow, manipulative asshole.

I do like the comic, but that’s not something I’m sure about anymore. Blueblood was shown to be observant and charming when he wants to be but a total ass at any other point. Like it’s an on/off switch. So, either he’s flip flopping between skilled negotiator and buffoon, or he’s such a shallow jerk he doesn’t think paying attention to others is worth it unless they do something for you.

I know a lot of people on here hate the comics, but you should check out the one with Blueblood and Shining Armor. It actually gives you a reason to like the character, and gives perspective on why he acts how he does.
I like to assume that Blueblood is highly mysophobic and Rarity spent the night dragging him through a personal hell while he desperately tried to avoid showing weakness in front of everyone.
@SunnySide
I know Sil’s version is less dyayish than most, it was mainly something to get off my chest. It doesn’t help that people seem to be much more forgiving of female characters.
Part of me feels a bit bad for Blue, since a good chunk of the fandom hates him, ignores his existence, or just ships him with Trixie and calls it a day, as well as him actually trying to do something good. I get it’s a light hearted joke, and Celestia is just having some fun (hence why it’s only a part of me that feels bad), but I just wanted get that out of the way.

Silfoe’s blueblood is mostly less of an ass.
The rest is obliviousness.
