This actually feels like the kind of picture you’d get as a ‘goodbye’ to a show :P  
Yaknow, a ‘our adventure here might be over, but there are plenty more adventures to be found!’ kind of happy ending.  
Like Calvin’s final strip, yes, but there have been other examples too (especially of the fan-art variety)
 
It’s not, because the show isn’t over, but I still enjoy the emotions implied in the hypothetical scenario. (Intent of the artist doesn’t matter, for the record; I side with ‘Death of the Author’)  
And cute, just on its own.
