Really!? I think the “tying into season 7” thing is bullshit!

Because the Friends Forever series is good, and that naturally leads to the main comics.
 
Also the fact that the comics are almost certainly going to outlast the cartoon by a lot, so there is an inherent interest to improve the quality of FiMs continuation.

Well, “The Fall of Sunset Shimmer” tied into EqG, but that was kind of a one-way tie-in (like Marvel Netflix shows and the MCU movies). I expect this’ll be the same.

Something big is obviously going to happen if they want to connect this comic arc to the season 7 premier.

Honestly most of the comic is genuinely good. If you want to avoid some of the “contested issues” avoid the root of the problem, reflection, and the christmas EqG one.  
Also the good the bad and the ponies, but that one is hardly a contest of badness if you have a brain. And The very first Friend Forever.
 
Aside from that it’s up to you.

Thanks, I thought it was something else. I should read those comics to conclude a personal opinion, but let’s hope that they do a good job in S7.

Legitimately bad issues are often trotted out here as representative of the entire series, and brought up ad infinitum years after they’ve (and their writers) come and gone.
 
Like the show, there are good issues/episodes and there are those with problems. If you’re a person who’s generally satisfied with most episodes of the show, you’ll probably like most of the comics as well. If you find some episodes of the show unfathomably bad, you’ll probably see the same thing in the comics.
 
If you’re interested in checking them out, the Friends Forever series is generally rated better. They are more slice-of-life type stories involving two main characters you sometimes might not expect paired up. The main series often takes bigger risks with grand plots in multi-issue arcs that can sometimes flop, or aspects of the story don’t click and it sours the experience of the entire arc for some.

Those are such blatant negatively skewed exaggerations that it is literally impossible to include them as they didn’t happen like you described to begin with (except the last one you crossed out). You can sleep soundly.

So long as they don’t include the following, I’m happy.
 
Celestia being so obsessed with love that she dooms two universes for a booty call  
The Princess of Friendship doing nothing when her friends are getting hurt  
Some idiot buys into an obviously evil dude’s claims and then recruits equally idiotic D-List antagonists to practically commit high treason  
Friends instantly ditching one of their friends with little to no evidence after they’re framed by a jealous sister  
A throw-away line that instantly forgives a character despite their crimes Starlight Glimmer would like to have a word.

I actually agree that Reflection, while it IS a huge letdown, isn’t THAT bad in itself. It’s just different story than usual. I also saw many people who liked it and I can get that. Though as a guy who was around, the preview of it , especially the covers, was very misleading, and we were way too much hyped after the first issue, and the fact that there was that cheeky joke at the end almost taunting us was a hard pill to swallow. I wasn’t one of the “complainer” back then tho, I had hopes.
 
The deer arc had much more flaws, mostly because she failed to represent the deer as empathic characters, even if their design was cool, and also because it changed the everfree lore in a way most people didn’t like. Freaking elves.
 
The bull arc however? That one is almost universally panned. It didn’t help that it was the one of the first* alicorn twilight stories . And it decided to “handle” her alicornification IN THE WORST POSSIBLE WAY THEY COULD HAVE EVER DONE!
 
*edit:my bad that wasn’t the first but it was the first to really show the flaws in it, the pirate arc instead handled it pretty well.
