A slightly more critical analysis indicates that the reason the characters are so badly flanderized in each version of the story is because each of the ponies telling the story is emotionally biased against one or more of the other characters so their negative traits are grossly exaggerated.

And now we see why people didn’t like this episode.

I think the problem is more that it seems a bit out-of-character for each of them to be treating each other like this? Like….don’t they know each other better by now?

Exactly. After I made this, I don’t know why there seems to be dozens of bronies out there who think these were the actual portrayals of the characters the writers implied.

They NEVER said these lines. Their friends THINK they did although they really only remember fragments, deformed by the (PG rated) trauma of the wreckage and reconstructed with their own bias towards them. Remember, all these scenes are just subjective memory flashbacks.

There was a big controvesy with many saying that season 3 of mlp was suffering from seasonal rot because some people didn’t like it as much as the past two seasons. Season 3 is still pretty fresh for an animated series. Animated series usually expire during or after the fourth season. (see spongebob) I personally found season 3 to be not as good as season two but still good, and while its okay to not agree I don’t think its seasonal rot just because a lot of people don’t like the season.
