To trick Applejack into accepting their plan.
Ah, I suspected as much. Being able to read Chinese characters is a serious advantage when trying to translate Japanese. My lack of ability to do so is my single greatest weakness when trying to translate. As long as I can hear the pronunciation, though, I’m golden.
I used:
a “Handwrite” tool to write certain Japanese kanji,
typed any hiragana or katakana down (under the “konnichiwa” tab or button: I type “konnichiwa”, and I get “こんにちわ”),
and then switched to typing Chinese words for any kanji that I can understand in Chinese, but whose Japanese pronunciations I do not know about.
(such as 自動化: in Japanese it is read as “jidou-ka”, but I type “zi dong hua”, as I, as a Chinese, can recognise these characters, but not their Japanese pronunciation.)
Edited because: Removing unnecessary things.
You’re most welcome, though honestly most of the lines seem okay to me. Maybe a few nitpicky bits like in panel 2 Twilight’s line being a bit more like, “Let’s increase the acreage by opening up the hillside!” and Rarity’s being, “(We should) improve automation and optimisation of production and capital equipment!”
For Flim’s line “速攻でバレた兄さん!” (Sokkou de bareta Nii-san!) in panel 4, “sokkou” means “at high speed” or “right away”, while “bareta” is a casual past tense form of “discovered” or “found out.” So something like, “She found us out right away, brother!” or “She saw right through us, brother!” might be more suitable.
On another note, may I ask how you managed to use Google Translate for a comic? I usually have to pore through the kanji until I find the right one. If I could use Google Translate to find out what the words sound like (I can understand easiest through what the word sounds like), it’d really speed up my ability to translate stuff. I had to spend days painstakingly going through each line here, for example.
Edited because: Clearing up mistakes
You are welcome.
@lackey_h
Speaking about cars, I think a glittering horse chariot will be a finer choice.
thank u friend
hissssss
They’re talking about Gemba and Kaizen - or as we refer to them in my workplace ‘managers wandering around like idiots’ and ‘managers screwing things up for everyone’.
Thanks for the help. Could you help me make other parts more accurate, as some of the Google Translations used for this ended up poorly?
Oh, and by the way, I wonder if the “chickens” part would make this “semi-grimdark”, as it may imply slaughtering the birds?
Edited
If I may, in panel 4 AJ’s line お前らフリムフラム兄弟だろ! (Omaera Flim Flam kyoudai darou!), the “darou” part is a rough version of “desu na”/ “aren’t you?”, so maybe something like, “Y’all are Flim and Flam aren’t ya?!”
@neo4812
Here is the (mostly Google-translated and then edited) translation, sentence by sentence:
=効率化社会=
=An Efficient Society=
Panel 1
Twilight: 移動にかかる歩数を調べて”カイゼン”よ! (トヨタ式よ!)
“We shall examine the steps that will be taken to move up to ‘improve!’” (Toyota-style!)
Rarity: 流通経路も見直した方がいいわね!
“It will also be best to review the product’s distribution channels!”
Panel 2
Twilight: 斜面を切り拓いて作付面積を増やしましょう!
“Let us increase the acreage that was opened up by the hill’s slope!”
Rarity: 設備投資して生産の自動化と最適化を図るね!
“It improves the automation and optimisation of production and capital equipment!”
Panel 3
Twilight: 遺伝子組換えなら生産量は従来の5倍になるわ!
“The genetic recombination will multiply production volume by five times!”
Rarity: 人手が足りないから労働実習生を沢山連れてくるわね!
“It will bring more production if you lack any workers!”
Twilight: 鶏の餌に排卵誘発剤を添加しましょ!
“It will add substances on the chicken’s food to cause them to lay more eggs!”
Rarity: ポストハーベストでいくらでも消費期限をごまかせるわ!
“It can give plenty of time to extend the expiration date at post-harvest (after farming)!”
Panel 4
Applejack: お前らフリムフラム兄弟だろ!
“It’s you, the Flim Flam Brothers!”
Flim (disguised as Twilight): 速攻でバレた兄さん!
“Quickly now, brother!”
Flam (disguised as Rarity): 速攻で逃げるぞフリム!
“At haste, Flim!”
Edited because: Just to clarify which characters spoke which lines.
Japanese are real words.
