I used:
a "Handwrite" tool to write certain Japanese kanji,
typed any hiragana or katakana down (under the "konnichiwa" tab or button: I type "konnichiwa", and I get "こんにちわ"),
and then switched to typing Chinese words for any kanji that I can understand in Chinese
(such as 自動化: in Japanese it is read as "jidou-ka", but I type "zi dong hua", as I, as a Chinese, can recognise these characters.
As I cannot understand much about the Japanese language, I usually pronounce kanji as Chinese words, unless if I know their Japanese readings. For instance, 最適化 (saiteki-ka) as "zui dian hua", but 山 as "yama", as I already know how 山 is pronounced in Japanese.)
