Also… “Detect electromagnetic radiation.” You mean an antenna? Submarines have been doing that since WW2. It’s called Radio Direction Finding, subset of Electronic Warfare, and it’s rather easily countered by Emissions Control, EMCON, more widely known as “radio silence.”
Not sure which came first (the comic or the TV) but it’s both valid as their debut (the comic veers off the TV canon that it has it’s own canon).

Aw man, yeah, and Friendship is Magic was the absolute worst, it introduced, what - 9 new characters just off the bat??? Sheesh. XP hehe

Okay that part I will entirely disagree with. The show did absolutely diddly with the entire city after it first appeared. A whole town full of ponies a thousand years old! Absolutely no development whatsoever! Used as a backdrop for like four episodes since.
Frankly, The Crystalling does infinitely more to actually establish the Crystal Empire into the mythology of the show than any other episode.
Canterlot Wedding on the other hand didn’t even try. “Hey here’s two characters who have never been mentioned before ever. Deal with it.”
Plus, Sunset here was introduced to sell toys too. But as we all know, everybody hates Sunset Shimmer, right?
