…Right. Because Spike has never eaten popcorn before. That popcorn bucket he emptied in “Too Many Pinkie Pies”: totally just gems disguised as popcorn. NOT ONCE has he eaten actual pony food, despite the many times we have seen him do exactly that.
 
I just think Celestia doesn’t want to share her snackies with anyone else. As soon as Spike tries to sneak some out, she tries to eat it out of his hands before he can have it. Next, she’s going to fart and blame it on him horrified gasp XD In all seriousness though I agree that it was meant just to be an extra little treat for her little guy, I imagine Velvet and Night Light aren’t the only grandparents who like to spoil Spike lol.
 
This is seriously adorable seeing them chilling, while I love Twi/Luna, Spike and Mumlestia really steals the show here.

I believe it was meant to be as an extra special treat. Spike likes regular food and has probably been nibbling on that popcorn too, but gems are special and extra awesome to him.
