Well, in my mind it works like this. The voting feature allows users to show what they like and dislike, no? And this fandom, doesn’t seem to like Sonic art. Or any art involving him and friends. More often than not, the art involving sonic characters is awful. And those rightly deserve downvotes.  
The better looking ones do get a better score, but not as high. But that’s because there are users who just don’t like Sonic and show their dislike by downvoting.
 
Bad art is just sad to look at. Hence why people just prefer not to give it the time of day, usually leaving only a few people who downvote them. It’s not something people “hate”, just something that’s not nice to look at. Meanwhile, sonic fanart is something that is not liked, hence the massive amount of downvotes. It’s why the voting system is there. To be able to show your approval or disapproval of something.

I fucking love the show, so, I don’t really see how I have the bias. I have this pic faved and liked because I think it’s adorable. Personally, I didn’t like the concept of Spike being Steven, but the drawing is adorable.

Man, the only way to look at a harmless and adorable little picture like this having 20 downvotes without seeing it as bias against [whatever]– completely unrelated to the quality of the art– is if you already share that bias.

I think maybe people also didn’t like the art being a mash up of Spike and Stephen, as, quite honestly, Stephen is a better character.
