Who ever said the timelines were connected? I thought they were all just different variants of the future, not all part of one timeline.
Also, since Discord did “save” the Princesses and his rule is way less deadly than NMM eternal night, the Equestrian ponies didn’t organise any resistance like with Sombra or Chrysalis and accepted the rule of Discord.
NMM world:
Luna as NMM come back and banish Celestia. In her timeline she shatter Discord’s statue.
Discord world:
NMM doesn’t shatter his statue. He escape. Since he is Chaothic Neutral he despise evil realm of NMM as much as good realm of Celestia. He banish her curse and revert her to Luna, return Celestia to her and torture them for eternity.
Discord is certainly powerful enough to overcome Nightmare Moon and force her to revert to Luna. Maybe he found NMM to be too boring and figured good ol’ luna would be more interesting.
