It’s not that they think country girls are offensive, they straight up think Applejack’s country character is boring and unappealing. Too ‘horsey’. If I remember correctly, they specifically said no brown/tan, open to colors other than orange/apricot unless nothing else works. She’s less of a token black character and more of a token scrappy punk character. Like an angrier Babs.

I’m pretty reasonably sure this was made PRIOR to the Cutie Remark being known, so this deserves a “hilarious in hindsight” tag.

This kind of reminds me of that arc where the Shredder attempted to wipe out the Turtles from existence via traveling back to the earliest “source” of the Turtles, which were the 80s shows and comics.

It would not work.  
Even without Lauren Faust, the G4 toy set of MLP would be created anyways by HABSRO, selecting StudioB/DHX again [because they are cheap], but also good doing the specific “animated quadruped puppets on FLASH” they require.  
Because Lauren Faust is dead, they will look for another animator with a similar ability to design characters and lore.  
The show will not be “the same”, but it is POSIBLE that it will set the same “spark” that blow up 4-chan in a perfect storm.  
Eventually (with enough seasons and episodes), the stories will get darker and edgier to please either the parents or the “unexpected adult audience”; creating a similar character than Starlight Glimmer [who will go back in time for whatever other reason]; setting the “past with Lauren Faust alive”…  
…This will keep “cycling” with minor variations until the Starlight “expy” character kills Lauren Faust (either by accident or on porpouse), finally closing the timeloop and allowing the future to happen.

Too bad there was no old starlight to save the day.
