The sad part is, it might have been a total accident. He’s been talking about “fair and reciprocal trade” for some time without anyone pointing this out. But when you propose legislation, a clever acronym is the first thing people look for. See, for example, the Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001.

TBH I don’t think he’s trying to ruin America. I do think he does want to make it better.
It’s just that he’s an incredibly stupid and narcissitic man who knows that know matter how bad he fucks up his quality of life won’t go down one iota. So he’s got nothing to lose when doubling down or settling personal piques.

Even I don’t think he’s trying to ruin America. But mostly him just trying to fix things. Which can be set for Trade, wars, and borders. He’s trying to hard to fix and it’s actually backfiring on him.

I was originally going to suggest that he got the idea while watching the nuanced interactions between the French and English in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, but then I remembered that time a joke comment George W. Bush had made proved too tricky for him to grasp, and decided he didn’t have the intellectual capacity to make it through the opening credits.
