*tantibus* should be aliased to *tantabus*, not the other way around

“Tantibus” was a Latin word for “nightmare”, but according to Big Jim Miller the proper spelling for the embodiment of Luna’s guilt is Tantabus.

Horse friend, if you don’t consider the literal Supervising Director of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic to be “reputable” then I don’t know what to tell you.

That post isn’t an official statement on the proper spelling of the name, it’s just jim spelling the word wrong.

Except the characters clearly pronounce the name as Tantabus. Even the episode’s synopsis spells it like that. I’m pretty sure this spelling is intentional.
 
Derpi is just about the only place to use the “correct spelling”. While “tantibus” is the correct spelling of the word, the tag this thread is about is a name and a name doesn’t have to be spelled exactly like the word it originates from.  
(“Tantabus” is also similar to “Tantalus” and this is possibly not a coincidece either.)

This has all been argued about and was decided two years ago. Barring new official statements or a decision amongst the rest of the team, it’s unlikely to change now.

That’s the part that really should have been a sort of clue that local policy was maybe not in line with the rest of the world, but if “literally the Supervising Director of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic” and “actual credited Story Writer of Do Pricesses Dream Of Magic Sheep” isn’t considered qualification enough to know how a character name is spelled, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, I guess.
 
If nobody gets around to asking Jim on Twitter in the mean time, I’ll try to remember to ask him in person at Nightmare Nights in October.

…Or, alternately, I’ll just pick up The Elements Of Harmony Vol. II guidebook on the way home from work and see what The Actual Official Name is.
 

Honestly, I thought it WAS being called and tagged Tantabus until I saw this thread~  
I’d be perfectly willing to alias it into the Show’s spelling. It’s a name. Doesn’t need to be spelled the same as the “real” thing.

User expectation does appear to be that it should be spelled tantibus, based on a sample of three in the comments of the linked image above.

This is in fact the only fandom site that institutionally misspells the character name as “tantibus”; possibly because not only is one third of the team who actually wrote the episode on record as spelling it Tantabus, but an official source which is literally subtitled “The Official Guidebook” also spells it Tantabus. Season 5 DVDs are out there in the wild– what sort of indignant excuses will be offered for why the subtitles for S05E13 spell it Tantabus?
