Also, that’s not how Luna’s dream at the beginning of the episode went at all.
While the part with the Mane Six “reharmonizing” her and the Tantabus escaping is cut and this changes the meaning of the dream (though, strangely enough, that part is mentioned later), the remaining part did indeed happen. “Greetings, Tantabus. I am ready. Do your worst.”

The characters definitely pronounce the name as “Tantabus”. One of the times it’s heard most clearly, for example, is during Luna’s line at around 12:54–12:57.
Also, a name doesn’t have to be spelled exactly like the word it originates from. That’s how a lot of IRL names are.
(BTW,
That doesn’t make any sense.
Amusing to hear that from a user with Discord on the avatar.)
@Badumsquish
Not so much “a guy on the crew” as Big Jim Miller, the actual Supervising Director for the show and one of the two Writers credited for laying out the episode’s story; he based it on a Baku– hardly a commonly known youkai in The West– and obviously knew what the word “tantibus” meant if that’s what he made the character name sound like, and it’s just silly to think he somehow didn’t notice a letter being “accidentally” out of place in a name that appears 23 times in the aired script.
“Tantabus” is the name of a character; “tantibus” is just a word in Latin.
@LanceOmikron
Totally. These sort of things happen. I bet what happened is somewhere along the line a guy on the crew misspelled it and nobody else realized the spelling was wrong.
@pnylvr @Badumsquish @LanceOmikron
Or, alternately, the guys who actually wrote the episode knew what they were doing and changed the official spelling to a trademarkable name rather than use an ordinary noun from a dead language nobody owns.
Regardless, Tantabus is the official spelling of the character’s name.
yeah, it’s not like anyone should have any issue with spelling it tantibus, renbow dosh, ponka poo, twilot sporkle, rarara, jappleack,…

Huh, I don’t remember that part.
I’m just being pedantic.

Yeah, descriptions like that are why one shouldn’t write the summary of an episode without actually having seen the episode.
Aye. Taggin board
:P
@Jarkes
I’m more surprised by their description of the Tantibus. “Sphere of black smoke”?
@Zeb
There’s actually a thread about this?
Edited
@Badumsquish
Because it’s not right! D=<
I just don’t get the point of being upset about it, is all :P
MY PARENTS WERE MURDERED BY A MISSPELLED WORD IN AN ALLEY WHEN I WAS EIGHT YEARS OLD, OKAY
HOW DO YOU HAVE SO MANY BADGES?
Before long, the number of badges you have is going to start breaking page layouts whenever you comment or post on something.

Just as long as we don’t end up with another Cadence/Cadance situation, with inconsistent official spellings…

Yeah, the book has some continuity errors here and there, so I’m not surprised they got a name like that wrong.
Probably just a typo or something.
