I just removed the useless source url tag from 152 images that don’t currently have any sources.
I might be overly paranoid, but have you checked if they used to have any sources in the past? (In case the current lack of source was a result of vandalism.) Some useless source URLs still contain some data, like they fact that the proper source can be found on a certain site or the artist’s username on that site.

BTW what should I do when the artist is uploading their own images with a useless source URL? (For example, linking their profile page instead of the image page?) Report the image and explain the situation in the report?

checking now…
very few have had any source history. most either weren’t URLs, a few had derpibooru’s homepage itself as a source, and two previously linked to now-deleted/invalid Facebook/Google CDN urls (no need to restore those links since the source is now dead)
one had a still-working link (Google CDN) so I restored the tag and source on that one since the tagged artist doesn’t have it on their DeviantArt page.
another had a shortened link that still worked so I simply added the destination link (DeviantArt page) to the sources and removed the source needed tag.
and a third had a tumblr blog as the source but I found and added the specific post and removed the source needed tag.
there’s also a shitpost that, although had a YouTube video listed as a source, doesn’t need it because it’s only references said YouTube video, as linked from the description.
RESULTS: one image’s tag was reverted, since the previously useless source still works. and I found more accurate source links for two more images.

The image, or the user, sure. Doesn’t mean anything will happen, though - I couldn’t find anywhere on the site prescribing that sources should be the most direct context for the image, with Rule #2 nebulously saying it needs to be “adequate”.
Of course, we’re free to edit the sources ourselves to point more specifically to where an image was posted.

Should I tag a real world person on a ponified image whose original depicted them if the ponified image replaced them with another character? A hypothetical example: should I tag Queen Elizabeth II on a ponified image of her if she is replaced by Celestia? She’s not on the image, but the image is clearly her but ponified, so tagging her would help people find this image.

I could browse through artist’s Twitter and match tweets to images… if Twitter didn’t require an account to browse through someone’s tweets.
Yeah, with the death of Nitter I finally caved and registered. All throwaway info, of course. The capcha was HARD…

Were you thinking about tagging Hitler? In that picture, IMO it’s indirect enough to be borderline relevant at best, leaning to the side of don’t tag.

Your linked image is not “clearly Hitler but ponified” it is Chrysalis and the only connection to Hitler is that she takes the role in this image that Hitler does in the original poster. That’s vague allusion. I’d argue it’s not even taggable as “impled adolf hitler” but someone else may disagree. This reminds me that we don’t seem to have clear precedent on whether characters that are being cosplayed by characters in images should be tagged with the main tag for the cosplayed character or the implied tag. Which, when you think about it for a second, goes along with every other diegetic portrayal of characters in images, like drawings and body pillows and plushie-toys.

Every image of a toy box from The Movie has a wall of tags because the box art included that one image of every-heckin’-creature who appeared onscreen, so I don’t think it’s unreasonable to tag a Daring Do dakimakura as daring do.

It seems like a difference between focusing the definition on the technical aspect and the versatility of the technique, including its use for both preserving and distorting certain parts of an image, and the meme culture use of the term that focuses on end results when the technique when pushed to extremes.
At the same time, I see that my definition was more technical using terms like “subject-centric warping”, which might not be very accessible for everyone who needs to use this term. And the alternative is both more humorous and accessible.
But, I do prefer my more broad approach to the definition, including both automated and manual distortions, and for cases where the technique is used to preserve or accentuate aspects of an image for aesthetic or artistic purposes, instead of focusing on memetic uses.
So while the alternatives are more concise, it doesn’t capture the full range of uses for this tag. And while mine is more detailed it is potentially more obtuse and ignores the memetic focus for most of the images on the site that use this tag.
So … I’ve replaced the definition with what I hope will be a compromise:
Short description:
Scaling portions of an image while preserving or distorting other areas.
Detailed description:
Content-aware scaling is a technique used both in memes and for aesthetic purposes to selectively adjust portions of an image. It identifies and protects key areas, allowing other areas to be scaled more aggressively. This can preserve the aspect ratios of important subjects while altering the background or non-subject elements. Conversely, it can intentionally distort specific areas, creating exaggerated and uncanny effects. Known also as content-aware distortion, selective distortion, and subject-centric warping, this method is versatile in both professional editing and humorous applications.
Please let me know if you have any additional suggestions or corrections.

Thanks for the input, I won’t tag him then.
the only connection to Hitler is that she takes the role in this image that Hitler does in the original poster
There’s also the fact that in Equestria at War, changeling state is often associated with Germany and when it’s ruled by Chrysalis, it’s associated with Nazi Germany.

I do not see any need to tag the technique when it is not prominently apparent. Consider: it is a tag hidden by the default filter. It should only be tagged when used in an exaggerated, meme-like way, and that indeed is how the tag has been used so far.
So while the alternatives are more concise, it doesn’t capture the full range of uses for this tag. And while mine is more detailed it is potentially more obtuse and ignores the memetic focus for most of the images on the site that use this tag.
I feel that is a mistake.
You could also argue that the tag should be removed from the default filter, I don’t mind that either way - simply that it is the way things are at present.

Why is it on the default filter anyway? It’s such a specific thing to hide by default when there’s arguably a lot more annoying filters out there with more images.

Yeah. I had no idea it was on that filter either. Apparently the only reason it was being used by that vandal was to get images they stuck it on filtered by default.

The tag crotchboobs is defined as “Humanoid breasts in the crotch area”, but teats is defined as “Accurately sized crotchboobs” and implies crotchboobs.
Which is it? Is crotchboobs an umbrella term for nipples in the crotch area? Or is it specifically for humanoid breasts in the crotch area?

It’s a little confusing for sure cuz they’re different enough, but like it says, when we say crotchboobs we mean unrealistic boobs like and can be found by crotchboobs,-teats, and when we say teats we mean realistic boobs like and can be found by teats (a real equine’s animal boobs are extremely small), so it makes sense and ain’t actually wrong to lump them together when you think about it; that way you can always find one with some animal boobs, the problem comes from ppl not knowing the diff.
So, yes, crotchboobs is used as an umbrella term, with teats used as a specifier.
Background Pony #F567
@rautamiekka
If crotchboobs is an umbrella term, its tag description should be changed to reflect that, maybe with a note that realistically sized ones should also be tagged teats.

im hoping this is the right chat for this.
I wasnt sure how exactly to tag content from the new show Wild Mane.
And while stumbling along one of my posts. I was asked some questions and concerns in the comments.
I tried tagging what worked within the images, So i apologize if i had tagged incorrectly im still relatively new to posting on derpi aaa ;-;
(All im asking is if im doing the right thing especially since they are edited screencaps from the show but not from MLP media just horse content essentially)
