Not sure if to put this in Stupid stuff or Unopopular opinion thread, since this is neither but anyways.
I have a theory that the reason why Twilight being a princess was seen so negatively, was because back in 2013, people I think had a general negative feeling to Disney princesses as sort of the regressive damsel in distress types, the supposed antithesis of FIM.
I remember those old terrible memes from like 2009, that showed text bubbles for each princess and talked about how “I teach girls to give up ny dreams for a man.” or stuff like that.
So perhaps for Twilight to be a princess was supposedly going back to that regressive trope.
Though I think with time where it showed Twilight as still a strong hero, and even using her newfound authority at times to help others, it became more clear this was nothing to worry about.
And I think in recent years, especially with Disney reboots playing into that problematic message, people see ones like Snow White much more positively and not some anti feminist symbol. It’s like Rarity said “Being a lady doesn’t mean you’re weak.”
That’s my theory anyways.
