IDW Comics - Story Discussion (Spoilers)

Based on recent suggestions, I’m making a new thread that is exclusively about the content of the comic.

I like the recent comic

I kinda wish they’d do more comics starring the lesser used ponies. Cheese Sandwich, Lightning Dust and the like. Trixie two parter is one of my absolute favs for including Babs and Trixie as starring roles.

I wish there was a way to know what kinds of stories/characters Hasbro has steered them away from. It’s hard to ask for specific things, when they might have already been denied.

The recent comic looks very interesting and fun. Like an insane B movie.

Well we know they likely couldn’t at least touch Coco, given that the poster shows her shilouette, and likely will have a big role in Made in Manehatten going by her trading card. Griffons were also off limits for the longest time since the show was doing something with them.
 
Still, there’s a massive pool of characters they could pull from to star in stories. Cheerilee for one.

You know what I’d like to see? A Friends Forever issue with Shining Armor and Rainbow Dash that’s basically a buddy cop comedy.

I’d love them using Shining more in general. Dude kinda gets the short end of the spotlight stick lately.

I’d like to see some more Celestia in the Friends Forever or main comic. Develop…uh. Her IDW version.
 
The comic isn’t strictly restricted to the mane 6 so it be done.

As long as they handle her better than her show version or that Reflections arc I’m all for Celestia in the comics.

Personally I liked some of the moments she had in Reflections. Mostly the final ones where she showed herself willing to sacrifice herself to save everyone. The rest/

Despite being madly in love with him, she reduced her visits with Sombra to only a few hours per year to prevent the bad side effects, and it was working just fine as far as anyone could see. She had just lost Luna and was emotionally vulnerable, and then Starswirl took away her lover on top of that. I can see why she would lash out.

Dude. She stormed off to her room to sulk just like a child that was caught with their hand in the cookie jar. And on top of that, she continued to see Sombra in spite of Starswirl’s very legitimate warning that turned out to be 100% validated when the freakin’ universes almost collided and reality itself nearly tore itself asunder.

She was crying because she was heartbroken, so I don’t think sulking is the right terminology here.
 
And yes, the danger was always present that she might find herself in a situation where she was unable to return to Equestria in time. This was the risk she took, and the unexpected development that got her caught after all these centuries was Alt. Luna teaming up with Alt. Celestia, allowing her to get the jump on Celestia.

She cried on her way to her room. Complete with “you don’t know what’s best for me, dad!” outburst. But once she was in her room, sure there would be sobs, but then comes the sulking.

I’ll just sit and wait for Luna/Discord and Sombra arc before i will take part in the discussion because there is nothing good that i can say right now about current comic stories.

I’ve never read the comics before. Can anyone tell me how bad they really are?
