And if you look at Florida’s don’t-say-gay bill and all the censorship and book destruction going on there it seems states already have quite a lot of power over education as it is. The only limitations is that they can’t teach outright falsehoods, can’t impose religion and can’t introduce segregation.

What destroying the department of education will do is allow red states to screw themselves over with historical revisionism and Christian indoctrination even more than they already are.

One thing I do hope is that at some point the xenophobia dies down and we can start thinking about actually solving problems. Building walls only can lead to stagnation. Hiding behind it’s great wall didn’t do China any favors at all and eventually Europe broke the door down.

If there’s no federally mandated curriculum or even a standard for what you’ve studied for, employers are naturally going to be looking at where you took your classes.

A decade or so down the line, you’re going to see employers gravitate towards denying job opportunities and discriminating against anyone fresh out of high school from states that are more interested in having indoctrinated religious bigots rather than a workforce able to think rationally.

The reason why learning algebra is important isn’t because it may see real, actual application, but because it’s the basis for both higher learning and a building block to conducting logical thought.

Just a casual reminder that in the Old Testament, God said to treat foreigners with respect since his people were strangers in a strange land themselves. What could we expect under a Carr-led FCC? The final demise of net neutrality is just the start. We can also expect the return of extortionate junk fees, the spread of broadband usage caps, an end to investigations of racial redlining in broadband deployment, no more efforts to assist the poor in affording internet, and the end of any expectation of user privacy.

Even in the iron age they knew that immigration is a big positive. Whoever manages to attract and integrate more people would dominate. The Roman empire especially had a very sophisticated system for doing this which is why they remained the dominant force for so long. Any enemy was assimilated within a single generation, usually even less and became a taxpaying citizen who could be recruited. An empire like that is pretty much invincible, it’s sheer size meant no army could take it in a single campaign but usually the enemies only had a single campaign before most of their soldiers assimilated.
It was when centralized power weakened and local leaders became capable of ignoring imperial regulations to instead exploit people that Rome got long term enemies like the Goths and the Vandals.

I mean, he was literally invited to the DNC and decided not to make too much of a stink about it when they literally kicked him out early. He can’t control all his fans. I watch him from time to time and voted for Harris.

I don’t think he’s one of these ones that was insisting that things literally can’t get worse for Gaza under Trump. There’s this other guy that I watch sometimes, BadEmpanada, who said people should vote for Trump because of Gaza. He was apparently convinced that situation couldn’t get any worse and so was arguing that America should be punished by voting for him. Not sure what he’s going to say when Trump definitely makes everything in Gaza even worse.

I don’t have too much of a stake in defending any streamers, I just think there are some bad actors who are too dishonest to admit that they’re okay with the genocide, and they’ve been trying to misrepresent what pro-Palestine people have actually been saying. That’s my only reason for defending him here, is that I think the narrative about him is manufactured by people like Destiny and Asmondgold.

We have decades of lived experience to prove this has not lived up to its promise.

Hasan’s fan base is godawful because of a combination of him being genuinely uninformed on anything beyond “America bad” and because he actively avoids curating it because he hates them.

So you get a community that’s all theory with no philosophy or practice, who’s only interaction with their guy is him screaming “ANDY!” at them before having them banned because he got fact checked.

The result is a breeding ground for slacktivism lead by ill-formed vibes more than concrete axioms.
