And if you look at Florida's don't-say-gay bill and all the censorship and book destruction going on there it seems states already have quite a lot of power over education as it is. The only limitations is that they can't teach outright falsehoods, can't impose religion and can't introduce segregation.
What destroying the department of education will do is allow red states to screw themselves over with historical revisionism and Christian indoctrination even more than they already are.
