His party was no socialist in nature and never was. They just called themselves the national socialist worker’s party to appeal to try to peal working class voters from the social democrats which was the largest party in Germany at the time.
The Nazi’s were extremely anti-communist and fearmongered about it a lot.

And yeah that is a complete contradiction to try to appeal to left leaning people while also describing them as evil but being contradictionary is kind of a thing fascists often like to do.
But the point is just because they say they are socialist doesn’t mean they were. They were nationalists who sided with the capitalists especially the powerful arms manufacturers and destroyed unions on their behalf. That’s actually a major reason how they came to power.

Also Hitler in the beginning wasn’t that much the leader. Rather it was Ernst Rhom who did most of the leading of the early Nazi party. That’s why he and his supporters were killed in the night of the long knives cause Hitler as him as a threat to his power.

My dad is very right leaning and I can talk about politics him with just fine.

It does help that one most social issues we have little conflict. Both of us are very liberal and fairly disinterested on it.
It’s just that he’s very pro-corporate and I’m very anti-corporate.

It just doesn’t really come up. There seems to be a general liberal attitude. Though it helps that we’re all athiest so it just isn’t seen as that politically important. When I asked them they mostly acted confused why people would want the government to dictate such personal matters.
Even the Christian parties never bring it up. They have their focus more on getting money to churches and one long term project of theirs is getting rid of the national lottery, something I actually think is not a bad idea since it’s mainly a tax for the poor.

Though some of the fascist party are trying to introduce the concept of “woke” and making all the same claims that come with it. Including the evils of gay people even though gay marriage has been legal for over 40 years.
The problem for fascists here is that the EU is very liberal.

To an extent but they also were very heavily anti-communist. They basically tried to have their cake and eat it too. They wanted to appeal to anti-capitalist, capitalists and nationalists all at the same time. The lack of sense was compensated for by propaganda and billionare support.

My grandma was farmer all her life and she actually has a very casual attitude to abortion because of it. She has slaughtered over a hundred animals so she has a very casual and objective view of life. It’s why I find it so confusing rural Americans are anti-abortion. My grandma is also very strongly pro euthanasia for the same reason.

It’s because the republicans have been going with that narrative for a long time and put most of their eggs in a basket that appeal to emotion, and falls apart if you think critically about it. It also plays into religion (I know since my family falls for it and we’re very religious), claiming that all aborted fetus go to heaven (which I question at what point does the soul enter the body, since their logic indicates it’s as soon as an egg if fertilized, which doesn’t seem right to me since that implies that God didn’t put much thought in when the soul is formed).

Because rural Americans, more often than not, are also some combination of uneducated, conservative, and/or religious. The latter two get twitchy any time someone suggests something that’s not “praise God and make babies”, and the former just goes along with whatever they’re told by the others.

This is so confusing to me.

Evangelicals in the USA are Protestant Christians who believe in the necessity of being born again. They believe in the doctrine of original sin, and that being ‘born again’ - an individual’s conscious decision to accept Jesus Christ as their savior, often through the act of baptism - is required for entrance to heaven.

So how the fuck can a fetus be ‘born again’? Is this some ‘age of accountability’ shit that’s conveniently being ignored in their decision of ‘what is a person’?

Is there an Evangelical here who can explain what the fuck even? I’m guessing it’s somewhat - m a y b e - similar to Kegare, where childbirth is unclean even though its the gift of life, or something like Taigyo or 護摩行, where for the practitioner the punishment leads to a reward? But somehow this particular branch of Christianity decided that EVERYONE should be equally punished? Even though they’re not a member of that faith?

I mean, if the ‘age of accountability’ doesn’t matter, then where does this end? Are Evangelicals trying to recreate “Sperm Is Sacred” but somehow have managed to avoid it because they masterbate so much? So … is this a kind of (waving hands) self punishment but doing it to others instead of just to themselves?

Also I thought protestants, especially American ones believed in the work ethic. That you need to work hard to earn the right to go to heaven. By that logic no fetus or even baby will ever go to heaven.
The idea of the work ethic is what justified slavery and was later used to supress and discredit labor unions. So it’s a big deal. It’s still used to argue against welfare.
