Ultimately, the debate was pure entertainment to the 99% of watchers which vote is already secured or doesn’t matter in the first place.
The ones that do matter, the undecided ~200k in key swing states saw one candidate confirm all the allegations of frailty and weakness pushed against him and another confirm that he’s an unhinged lunatic unworthy of working even at a McDonalds. It’s unlikely much if any of them had their opinion changed tonight.

I do not, Trump will cause immense damage abroad and in the US. Last thing the world needs right now. Sadly no amount of trials or charges seem to have any effect on him running so it will probably end up being decided at the election. Idk if the best case would be him stepping down before November, but that still leaves the critical spot open. Kamala’s probably going to get shafted to hell and back, Newsom… exists. Third parties are the equivalent of tossing a single pail of water into a forest fire (not to mention how Trump stated he likes the more prominent third party people, Stein and West, siphoning votes).

I think it was a big mistake to let Biden do the debate. He should never have done it. And his age is a real concern. 81 now, he is showing clear signs of slowing down and he walks around in a very stiff and odd way. If he wins, will he survive the presidency, let alone be able to govern in 4 years? I do hope he wins but this was a dent in his reelection campaign.

No it won’t be. By European standards the USA has been “fascist” since 2001. Every president after Carter has been declared to be the next Hitler. It is not a dictatorship. Checks and balances still sort of work, states are increasingly defying federal authority and doing their own thing, both major parties are plagued by infighting (but it’s hurting the Republicans more), and all of our leading politicians are bumbling gerontocrats who literally don’t know what year it is, let alone the price of milk.
Even if Trump somehow gets a second term, this hypothetical second administration will be just as bumbling and incompetent as the first was, just as crammed with incompetent neoptism hires and backbiting flatterers as the first was, and the few policies that actually survive all the legal, judicial, and bureaucratic roadblocks would immediately be reversed come 2029.

The Republican Party is too busy chasing elusive ‘minority voters’ to plan their extermination, and even if they were planning a genocide, they’re not competent enough to actually carry one out. They have proven time and time again that they are cowards, and the only things they can do well are obstruct legislation and grift.

Did the US play a role in say(choosing at random here), the China-Vietnam war and the Russo-Ukrainian war? Yeah, but they were by no means the main instigator and the internal politics of those countries were driving causes of those conflicts(China wishing to establish hegemony over a Vietnam that sided with the Soviets post Sino-Soviet split and Russia wanting to maintain its rapidly decaying imperialist power by any means necessary by taking over what it thought to be an easy target)
And then there’s wars like the Armenia-Azerbaijan wars where the US just straight up played such an insignificant role you can just write them out entirely in a history book and lose nothing
I don’t deny the collapse of US hegemony could(key word: could) lead to something good in the end, but until/unless we get to that end, it won’t be pretty at all

As a debate, Biden unambiguously won. Despite his verbal stumbles, he made a good faith effort to substantively answer each of the moderators’ questions, whereas Trump responded to every prompt with the same stream-of-consciousness bullshit that defines his campaign rallies. On several occasions, the moderators had to gently remind the former resident what topic he was supposed to be addressing.
As theater, however, Trump won. In theory, it was a tie. Both candidates affirmed their respective stereotypes: Biden is old, Trump is insane. Neither was a particularly compelling orator. But Democratic voters are deeply concerned about Biden’s oldness, while Trump’s untreated neurosyphilis doesn’t seem to bother Republican voters in the least.

I would consider televised debates theater, dating all the way back to the first one between Kennedy and Nixon in 1960. Kennedy came off as youthful, confident, and charming while Tricky Dick looked sullen, gloomy, and humorless. That had a notable impact in Jack’s favor.
Now, given how polarized the electorate is, it’s unlikely to affect the race more than a little on the margins. But Biden can’t afford many setbacks.

It’s theatre, sure. Everyone knew Trump was going to rant about the border/immigrants, Chieanna, being the bestest president that’s ever lived and the US now being a third world country, and that Biden was to bring up Beau, Trump being a felon, and drop at least one “malarkey”. Nobody was going to be swayed by the arguments.
But the point for this particular bit of theatre was for both to demonstrate they were still lucid and energetic, and boy did Biden not do that, at all. Democrats have been harping on about how behind closed doors Biden is always super bright and attentive, quick witted, alert, commanding; for three years people have been begging “ok, well, how about actually show us that facet?”, and last night we definitely did not get that.
If Biden steps down, it won’t be any time soon. They can’t make it seem like it’s because of the debate (ie. because of Trump), they’ll have to wait until there’s some “health scare” or whatever that makes it look separate.
I’d be shocked if at least half the dem senators and governors, and Obama, haven’t called up Biden to tell him to step down. But none of them will say anything publicly, of course.
