I recently heard that Sky:Children of the Light is coming to PC sometime this year, and we might be getting Bionicle: Masks of Power in the next year or-so as well, if the constant steadmdb updates are of any indication, so I decided to revamp another, slightly older profile that was originally made a few years back, though I might have gone a little overboard with it.
I had a lot of fun writing and rewriting this, and I hope you all have a wonderful day/week.
A somewhat enigmatic figure usually seen wandering the harsh, vast deserts surrounding Cartuga, Keara is among the most well-known of its residents, thanks largely in part to having spent the last few millennia roaming the seemingly endless sands which she calls home, in the hope of finding something that may be of use or interest to the many dozens, if not hundreds of travelling peddlers and vendors she encounters, interacts and barters with.
Starting at the moment Cartuga’s former King Antonio, was deposed with the help of the Chronicler’s Company, Keara’s attempts at finding or trading with anyone brave, foolhardy or perseverant enough to crossing the stretch of desert between the city and its kingdom’s borders, or the other towns and cities which are spread out within it, have all-but skyrocketed, and her numerous pouches, knapsacks, and such are filling with currencies spanning what seems like the entire globe, far quicker than ever before.
As well as just coins, Keara also trades and barters with various items, most notably in the form of artefacts and trinkets, such as rings, amulets small ingots of semi-rare or precious metals, and sometimes the occasional handful of uncommon or somewhat rare gemstones. Such forms of trade have likewise gone through the proverbial roof, and Keara has notably mentioned having needed to expand her home to be able to fit all of the items and materials she now possesses, as well as her stores of water and food, the latter of which also seems to be imported from the various corners of the world.
To protect herself from the dizzyingly intense heat and near-blinding sun, Keara has taken some of the cloth and leather materials and woven them into a cloak, using a form of Heliomancy to greatly attenuate the sun’s rays constantly beaming down on her. Similar enchantments have also been given to the various skeletal attachments Keara has acquired through constant scavenging, using a Cryomantic enchantment on them and the cloak to make a reverse igloo effect to regulate her body temperature and keep her from dehydrating or overheating.
The food pouches and waterskins she is often seen carrying while travelling the Cartugan Desert have similar, yet distinct enchantments that prevent their contents from going rotten or going stale and evaporating, effectively being kept in stasis from the moment they are filled or equipped.
Functioning as the centrepiece for her little hideaway and many of the other locations she uses as temporary living arrangements, Keara has built a shrine dedicated to Luxor, the God of Commerce, and patron-deity to Ingracia’s many vendors, merchants and the like. The offerings she leaves before and after each of her daily travels across the fine, if rather course sands usually consist of metal ores and ingots, semi-precious gemstones, coins, a few uncommon artefacts, and other likewise-valuable items or supplies.
Each is given as thanks for letting Keara continue living the way she has been, and continues to do, without needing to worry about a lack of supplies or rations.
The shrines were hand-carved from sandstone, with the usual colours for the plinth being iron/copper-red, bronze, silver or gold, and the stature-like addition on top being an opulent earthy-brown adorned with gold filigree and patterning. Crafted in the shape of a large set of scales, with finely-woven rope keeping the measures on each arm stable, the morning offering is placed in one, while the evening one is placed in the other.
After both have been placed in their respective scales, a lantern built into the top is lit, the flame of which doubles as a portal leading directly to Luxor’s place of dominion, sending her offerings to Luxor directly. The response she gets is usually immediate, and Keara’s body is rejuvenated after having spent the day wandering the often at times blisteringly-hot desert, her mana reserves being likewise refilled to help continue the enchantments on her attire and equipment from petering out.
Upon hearing about any nearby holiday events, festivals, or celebrations, she doubles the offering on however many shrines as she can manage, in the hopes of giving a portion of it to Ingracia’s other Gods, Spirits, and other heavenly entities in the process.
While known for usually being solitary, Keara has been known to visit some of the nearby towns and cities which dot the Cartugan desert, especially during such events as those mentioned above, most notable being the Festivals of Light. During her occasional visits at, Keara usually beings several pouches of Rel to use at the local shops or taverns, and in spite of being asked by the people she has met on each trip whether she plans on returning to Cartuga, she has answered each of them in-kind, explaining she prefers her current life, and greatly enjoys venturing out and exploring the desert encircling each of her homes, more-so if she happens to find a rarer artefact or anything which looks either profitable, or if it could make for a far greater offering to Luxor and the others.
Besides preferring to keep to herself during her usual daily goings-on, Keara is known around some of the closest villages to be somewhat talkative, though relatively wise. She has often claimed that she owes it to her thousands of years spent interacting and bartering with people from all walks of life, and virtually every commutable part of Ingracia and its various regions and biomes, ranging from those struggling to make ends meet, to wandering nobility or even royalty from other nations or continents.
Such interactions have also left Keara sharp-witted and an equally good judge of character, with a keen eye for detail in regards to how those around her speak, behave, the wording they use, as well as their body language.
Putting aside her reserved, if erudite nature, she has also proven to be good company for those visiting Cartuga’s smaller towns and villages, often making donations to the local treasuries or the less fortunate. In a rather similar vein, she is also said to the life of the party whenever such events are happening, and has been reportedly seen near or at the centre of whatever commotion is taking place, often starting or taking part in a wide variety of games or challenges which she or the others include themselves in.
While Keara has received many offers to either move into one of the vacant homes available in each of the villages, and just as many potential suitors, she has turned them all down in-kind, clarifying that she much prefers her current life as-is, and greatly enjoys venturing out into the wide open desert to explore, especially if she happens to find a somewhat rarer artefact or trinket, either for its value, or using it as a much greater offering to Luxor.
The other part of her daily-goings on, which she seems to enjoy just as much, if not more, is the prospect of meeting or encountering all-new people, regardless whether they are travellers, merchants, Knight-errants, nobility or royalty from near or faraway lands, or even the number of travelling mages she has encountered over the last few millennia.
Her seemingly reserved nature aside, Keara is a people-person, and will go out of her way to help whoever she can find in need of it, provided it falls within her level of capability.
If she is unable to lend her assistance, Keara will make a beeline for and rush whoever it is to the nearest town or city, requesting for immediate aid upon arrival. Once they have been taken care of, she leaves a small pouch of coins and gems with them, as to help them regain their bearings after they recover.
Rarely, if ever does she ask for anything in return, and upon making it to the closest shrine, Keara will make a larger-than-standard offering to Luxor and the others, openly praying for their safety and wellbeing, should anything happen.
Living as a normal human, prior to the ‘Awakening of the World’, Keara’s body was changed, having been fused with the Sunsong Amphiptere she was in the midst of fleeing from while making it back to Cartuga.
When the shockwaves occurred from the resonating mana outputs each of the leylines was giving off, both she and it were sent flying into the city centre, where the merging process began.
Keara’s last, clear memory before she awoke to suddenly find herself the way she is now, is one of excruciating, blinding agony as both her and the Dragon’s bodies were seemingly broken down, piece-by-piece and reconnected together to form something entirely new.
Passing out almost immediately after the process ended, she found herself coming face-to-face with the towering, if majestic Dragon, watching it slowly break down into raw energy before it was absorbed into her body, this time without the searing pain of being forcibly merged.
Bolting upright sometime later, Keara found herself lying in one of the hospitals that had been constructed to help deal with the newly-formed ‘Arexians’ as they would be later known as.
Once the initial panic subsided, the now draconic explorer was visited and cared for by many of Cartuga’s best and brightest medical staff, many of them having been given first-hand eyewitness reports of her forced alteration into her current state. After several, gradual months of recovery and coming to terms with her newly-changed physical form, Keara was quick to gather and pack her things before taking her leave from the grand, bustling city, taking the first steps necessary to live in relative peace and quiet far outside the city’s walls.
Over time, she has learnt rather a lot, in terms of her new physiology and the side-effects of being largely draconic in nature. Aside from inheriting parts of its appearance or physical form, the Amphiptere’s instinctual hoarding became readily apparent, during the early years after fusing with it. After meeting the chronicler’s company, she learnt that a dragon’s hoard doesn’t have to be the rather stereotypical gold, gems, treasures and the like, and that it can be anything one can imagine.
Likewise there is hoarding which fills, and hoarding which fulfils. After contemplating on it for a while and mulling it through in regards to her previous work as a merchant, she eventually settled with the prospect of her ‘hoard’ as being the connections she forms with the various, if rather numerous people she meets and encounters, the memories of said interactions, and a small number of keepsakes from each.
Although Keara may not realize it herself, Luxor and his other pantheon members are equally as thankful for her unrelenting effort in bartering and trading with whoever she comes across, namely for her efforts in helping them cross the desert going to and from Cartuga’s residencies or even outside the kingdom’s borders, helping them return home just as unscathed, as well as giving them the supplies they need in order to make it to where it is they need to go, and so in turn keep granting the Arexian in question the ability to carry on living and working in relative safety.
By the time of having met the chronicler, Keara’s blessings are nearly as numerous as her scales, and she has earned quite a notable amount of favour with both Luxor and his counterpart Relka, both of whom have kept a close on her since she began work outside Cartuga, and have bequeathed her with a number of personal donations as thanks.
Stay out of the sun~
The term ‘Chronicler’s Company’ is a direct reference to a group of the same name the latter half of from Mata Nui Online Game, and the ‘hoarding which fulfils, rather than fills’ is a reference to one of my most beloved stories from the last ten/fifteen years.
