Arguing over whether an image is good or not is silly.
That being said, crossdressing anthro of a mod’s OC isn’t really what I think the featured image slot should be for. It should be 100% safe with no joke images and focus on images with a noteworthy amount of time, care, and skill put into them that may have been overlooked.

I suggested it, but it was voted on by the staff. I didn’t even vote for the image to be featured since that’s a rule about featured image voting.
I think it’s a really cute image. I’m sorry if it offends you in some way, but people make mistakes, and you don’t always get what you want, including me since the drama over this image made me regret suggesting it.
People also learn from their mistakes, and I’ve learned from this one.
If you want to know why I suggested an image of my own OC in a dress, it was commission from an artist going through some hard times, and I thought featuring that image as a “thank you” for their work might be nice. I felt it was feature-worthy. If it wasn’t, it wouldn’t have been voted.
There’s no nepotism conspiracy here. Just good intentions gone wrong. It happens because we are imperfect creatures, but we learn from mistakes.
That’s all I want to say on this matter in this thread.

Or you could have some maturity, also you don’t get to decide what’s art and what’s not so zip it.

Here’s how featured images are chosen.
Everyone who is on staff may nominate one image to be featured. It used to be that “Trusted Users” who weren’t on staff were also able to do this. So, for awhile, there were people who weren’t on staff who also nominated images, but several months ago all of those trusted users who wanted to be on staff became assistants, and the “Trusted User” role was deprecated, so now only people who are able to see the staff chat are able to nominate images.
Then, each person on staff can vote on 3 images, ranking the votes. So - you vote for a “My favorite” with +4, your second pick with +2, and your third with +1.
After the voting period, the counts are added together and one or two images win.
Each person has different criteria that they use to pick nominations, but in general we try to avoid artists who have already been featured, images that already have a high vote, and some of us work hard to make sure we’re only nominating artists who are still active in the community and who have been active on the site.
The only hard rule right now is that the image must not be hidden by the “Default” filter.
Beyond that, we also pull from the public Featured Images thread, and, on occasion, I’ve even nominated artists who have asked me to nominate them if I thought they had images that looked cute or good.
Some of the staff’s OCs have been nominated before, usually by others, and it’s really not unusual for one of staff’s avatars to get nominated - that’s happened enough that it sometimes causes confusion.
Like, when this image got featured.

While that was the nominated image I changed my avatar so people would focus on the image, not that it was my avatar, because I wanted the artist to get the attention - not me.
So, yeah - images that are someone’s OC do get nominated and win, and staff’s avatars and images that someone on staff commissioned do get nominated and do win. Because some of those images are really cute, and for myself, I don’t research the history of a cute image when nominating it or voting for it.
For the current featured image, I had no idea that had anything to do with anyone and I didn’t research the artist - I just thought it was cute and voted for it.
And as far as “Real Art” is concerned, here’s one of my recent nominations:
I’m sure you don’t consider that “real art” - but here’s why I think it’s a good nomination.
Jargon Scott (as they choose to call themselves) has been making fun, funny, and and wonderful images and sharing them with the community and on this site for 4 years. They’ve always been the perfect model of a modern pony artist, and had never been featured (until recently).
And sometimes their art goes completely overlooked.
So I wanted to nominate them and hoped that they would get featured - because they’re a great fan, a friendly and productive member of the community, and create tons of art for all of us to enjoy.
Happily, they got featured with a different image:
So then it’s time to find someone else to nominate.
I’m sure you didn’t think that was “real art” either, and I accept that you think this process of just selecting something fun that we think people might have missed is “nuts”.
But I liked the currently featured image, and I think it’s cute, so I voted for it. And I guess you’ll have to accept that some of us have very different ideas of what constitutes “real art”.
If you have something made by an artist who is active on the site, that is what you consider “real art”, and that has been overlooked and only has a handful of upvotes, please nominate it and the rest of us will look at it and consider it.
But you’ve never done that. You haven’t suggested a single image in this thread.
Maybe try it.
@Nо Hооves
None of us unilaterally feature images. There’s special features, like a holiday feature, but even then we still nominate images and have a special vote.
We’re a team - anyone who featured an image by themselves without talking to anyone about it would certainly be doing something wrong.
But that’s not what happened here, and that’s not how it works.

Oh, look at all the other staff replies while I was typing.
Ok - for anyone who thinks that staff don’t follow this thread and look through it for images to feature - here’s your proof that a lot of us are active in this thread all the time.
We just normally don’t have much to say.

I don’t think any one should feel suggestions aren’t meaningful, truth is picking a good piece where it features an yet not featured artist with something he/she has excelled at in good safe rated ways is a task on it’s own.
There’s a lot of stuff and picking something for every 3 days does add a lot of work, specially to the mod directly in charge for the voting, and personally speaking despite the early commotion you can all see the tag for yourselves.
It’s very solid, we just went through an apart case that was still justified in fair ways, soon to be forgotten about even since we’re soon to go to the new feature and well… that’s it, life goes on ^^
So do keep up suggestions, it is helpful to keep doing it the best way possible and highly appreciated.

Disagree. Featured images don’t always have to be 5 month work painterly landscapes, as that would disqualify most artists by default, and would make no vectors ever show up. Skill and time involved does not and should not matter, and the attention should be on the art itself and being picky about “well that OC was made/owned by a mod so that’s bad” may as well mean we can’t feature characters or artists or species we like at all because ~bias~.
Really, it’s not that serious and should only be seen as ways of showcasing images that a few people thing deserve more attention. Regardless of it’s a basic solo image of a popular canon character, a relatively popular ship, a random OC, a few OCs, an unpopular ship, a simple animation, a super detailed image, a simple image, all that matters is that it isn’t hateful or trolling.
There’s a lot of things I think should not be featured and are or should be and are not, but it would not be fair of me to say “well this shouldn’t be featured because I don’t like” to anything.
Also anthro isn’t worth anyone ever getting upset by. Grow up. No I’m not referring to you, just people that whine about “no hooves”.

They must be SFW (Safe, Suggestive or Semi-grimdark) and Preferably either somehow slipped by unnoticed or are absurdly remarkable.
