@Background Pony #5FA8
Well if you believe the comics are canon then yes she was holding back since the comics clearly show her mutilating an entire race in one shot.
@Background Pony #5FA8: Obviously, you didn’t see the picture I linked that explicitly shows a storybook depiction of Celestia kicking Chrysalis’s flank.
@Pagan
Works for me because in my view anyway, she saw ponies as nothing more then food for her hive and rather then find a peaceful solution she tried to conquer through covert infultration.
Also from what I saw in her orgin story she had more character then in her first appearance in the show.
A cunning lier, a heartless conquerer, and a survivor.
If that’s not character I don’t know what is.
@Starswirl
Which makes for better fights. Also, she’s pretty unpleasant with Discord because she’s tired of his crap. I’d say Cryssi would be in the same boat if she came back constantly trying her antics.
@Perteks
I was talking less ‘full power’, and more ‘I’m-going-to-burn-you-at-risk-to-everyone-including-myself power’.
Chrysalis totally won against Celestia’s full power with a lot of gutsy ambition, Celestia lost outright. But Celestia HAS demonstrated power over then that when she hasn’t considered her own survival ‘necessary’.
This part is just a private headcanon of mine, but I believe if Celestia uses her ‘Solar Flare’ level power too much, she loses her age-wise immortality. (Plus, it turns her into a raging inferno with the force of a ‘queen’ who’s ruled for 1000 years. All Head-Captain Yamamoto fury. It ain’t exactly safe to use.)

We aren’t all friends already? A heated discussion is just how we at Derpibooru say hello :)
@dynamicv
And as for the Canterlot Wedding, so many people whine ‘Oh, Chrysalis gets her power from love, how did she not see their power coming?’ Yeah, lets be honest, that’s complaint is complete horsepocky.
It was a never-heard-of magical phenomenon between a guard captain and a love-based alicorn in her early 20s that’s probably never existed before.
Unicorn magic was never an issue. That’s just silly. Most villains have been defeated by magic not categorized as unicorn magic. If it was, Sunset’s science job would of been way easier.
How did the other villains leave opportunities for failure?
Discord: He didn’t dodge from a giant laser of friendship.
Sombra: He prayed that Celestia and Luna wouldn’t finish the job themselves, and he thought 8 foot spires around the Chrystal Heart and 2 inch spikes across the floor would stop someone who could throw or push an object if they couldn’t use magic.
Tirek: Where do I even begin? Had Celestia sent Luna the episode would of been over in 5 minutes.
Chrysalis’ defeat came without a safety net or an obvious slip up. She even chose the crowded ballroom to fight so Celestia couldn’t unleash her full power. And it was actual perseverance that Chrysalis defeated Celestia. Actual tension with a one-in-a-million miracle. That counts for a ton in my book.

Since when was Twilight’s magical limits unicorn magic? They explained in Tirek’s arc it was completely different due to being the Element of Magic.
They demonstrated several times within the show how different her magic was compared to normal unicorn magic regulated by will. (I’ve always found it ironic how Twilight explained to Pinkie unicorn magic and how her own magic didn’t make sense by the same definitions)
Also, I’ve reread the first comics, and Twilight was a liar back then as well. Chrysalis said she knew everything about stealing the essence of people’s hearts and their power, but wondered how she could absorb Twilight’s ‘destruction magic’ cause it was different, it wasn’t tied to her essence. Twilight tried to bluff that the magic was based on focused study and not raw ability, neither of which would of been out of Chrysalis’ grasp, but the comic showed that Twilight had actually no idea where the power came from. (I mean, we later learned in Tirek’s arc that Twilight is just a sinkhole of magic like the Avatar State, which could be increased regardless of the state of mind of the user, but back then we weren’t sure)
Yup, and she though it was impossible for Cadance to restore Shining Armor’s magic with her love (despite feeding on love herself) which is why she lost against them.
Chrysalis wanted Twilight to teach her unicorn magic. Put two and two together and the reason she loses is because she doesn’t have enough knowledge of what unicorn magic can do.
@Spinny
Twilight has always been arrogant. It shows the most in the very first episode of the show, later on she tones it down. But when facing your enemy, there’s no reason to keep it toned down.
Here’s some dialogue from episode 1:
Oh, I’m not worried, Spike. The Princess trusts me completely. In all the years she’s been my mentor she’s never once doubted me.
See? I knew she would want to take immediate action.
Yes, yes it does. You know why? Because I’m right!
@Perteks
I agree that Iron Will is pretty out of place, he’s the nicest of the people lured in by Radiant Hope, but I kind sorta buy the whole culture issue he has.
His race prospers from being intimidating, and now he’s too good a person for one of his race now, he’s kind of stuck. Not to the extreme young Sombra was stuck being born an Shadow Pony, but at the very least his more friendly assertive seminars just aren’t working.
The core origin of this millenia old conflict was the inability to find a middle ground. Iron Will might be a minor example of that. For Sombra, its fate of entire kingdom’s level serious. For Iron Will, its more mid-life crisis.
Iron will =

“Hey, wanna go screw with Twilight?”
In her defense, that would work on me.
Good for you but I still don’t like it.

Holding back, right…
You’d be wrong.
I thought our way of saying hello was saying hello, not arguing about comic stuff

Celestia is not overpowered like you think ;p
Why cant we be friends, why cant we be friends?
Follow me.

The comet boosted them both. Ironically, not realizing that (ahead of time in her case) was why Chrysalis lost.
