Would be nice if these comics were printed with the dialogue edited out. then we could appreciate the art without having to analyze and agonize over the crappy writing. At this point Chris-chan could probably come up with better story arcs and character motivations.

Yup just more shit from IDW making Chrysalis look incompetent, weak and only has a few minions it’s bad enough they ruined any kind of backstory she could have had she had a lot of potential but nope she’s just evil with no redeeming qualities and is just a throw away villain, at least I still got the show version of her instead of this garbage to work with.
 
But yeah this arc is bad like western and dragon town bad complete OOC from established characters that makes no sense and turns them into criminals even though they rely on their reputation for their jobs, very limited action thus far a couple of good jokes but that hardly makes up for the terrible plot and writing man I had high hopes for this arc I thought it would be the turning point for IDW but nope it’s one of the worst I have seen in a while from them.

If you ask me, something as important as Chrysalis childhood should dealt with in full detail in the show. Something big. They kept Chrysalis’ origins ambiguous enough in her origin comic that there’s plenty of potential for future backstory.

She feeds on life and not love, which is boring. She barely shapeshifts. Aside from her chitinous armor they take no advantage of her being part bug.  
And instead of answering interesting questions like what she was like when she was young, what her parents were like, etc., we got her popping out of a dead tree in a spooky pond looking more or less the same as she does now. And a wizard did it.
 
And she’s not even seductive. She’s a temperamental, vengeful brat.

But even with the fact that Chrysalis was love-gorged when she invaded Canterlot, she could very well have been defeated all the same by Celestia herself if she (Celestia) was holding nothing back.

Why are people calling twilight arrogant now? It’s banter against a villain in a fight, quit being so offended. This isn’t much different than Twilight telling off demon Sunset Shimmer during their battle, or Twilight telling Starlight that her studies were more advanced.

Don’t forget that (if you hadn’t read ahead yet) Chysalis was intentionally holding back so everyone could concentrate on locking them up.
 
Chyrsalis going full force rebellion alone with the Rainbow power and Princesses backing them up? Not a chance. Taking over alongside the fully resurrected lord of shadows and monsters, Sombra? That’s a serious level threat
 
And Twilight? That was just uber level arrogance, and without any coyness. Sad to say, but she’s always thought that she was the one smart and important enough to solve most things, both in the comics and show. Just like when she faced Alt-Celestia, luck and friends pulling her butt out of the fire was the only reason she didn’t get killed right there.
 
Iron Will, the Flim Flam Brothers, and Lightning Dust were most likely just patsies. Chrysalis knew Radiant Hope’s endgame.

Though my friend who’s a huge fan of Twi doesn’t like her portrayal in comics so even that “fanservice” kinda fails to reach the target auditory as well.

Fanservice for those who value the Mane Six over any other characters. Strip the other characters of any interesting qualities, and you have a bunch of invincible “heroes” like the Six. You also end up with them being egotistical wankers, like Twilight in this arc.
