Basically it is a secondary consciousness/personality which inhabits the same body as you, and is capable of imposing itself unto our world as an auditory and visual hallucination. Completely legit, real stuff, take my word on it.
A “mind palace” taken to its logical conclusion, with another consciousness willed, or “forced” into being, to impose upon the senses of the person who makes the tulpa.
“Forced hallucination” is a pretty blunt way of putting it too.
