I have this mental image of Rarity using those bladed folding-fan weapons, actually.

Oh, come on. Rarity may act all frou-frou, but she’s hardly incapable of violence. Heck, when Discorderd, she seemed to know some form of martial arts, and it seems unlikely to me that Discord just put that there.
AJ’s definitely got more raw musclepower, but it’s hardly a stretch to suggest Rarity may have better technique.

We also know from S01E04 that AJ has tendency to bite more than she can chew. Twi has to drag her out every time AJ does that
In fairness, we saw the abridged version of the fight. Never did get a body count, someone should make that a full animation of that ala Smile HD but with everyone.

Forgot one other piece of action: that pre-nuptial Changeling beatdown. Rares unloads right crosses with a smile; AJ gets dogpiled & bailed out by Twiley. ‘Endure it’ my malodorous rump.

Plus, apple-droppin’ thunder thighs don’t mean much without the leverage to use ’em. And speaking of Tom, who spent half an ep schlepping around with a boulder on her back?

I had to edit out the splodges on the line so there was more freedom coloring the sticky mud, but it still passes off as being more ink/paint-like in texture instead of being lumpy in bits, due to the rest of the Rarity’s and Applejack’s outlines not being drawn with enough lumps and mud flow.
Rares can be a hoofful if AJ tries to threaten Tom.
