Thats how writing works u make characters do things. Ofc they aren’t real they can’t do anything on there own. Everyone was in character the villains acted like villains, a character made a reckless dumb decision due to not understanding friendship. It was a regular mlp episode with higher stakes.

Because we’re talking about the writing here. These characters do not make decisions themselves; it’s the writers who made them do all these things. And that’s really where the criticism lies. What I find interesting is that people who don’t like Season 9 discuss the writing while people who argue for it talk as though the characters made their own decisions. I feel the writing was ultimately a confused mess. The thing about Spike is that it was obviously done to make the Trio more loathesome. Really though, the writing throughout season 8 & 9 was mediocre at best. Season 9 had actually been better, which makes the finale hurt even more.

Everyone thought they were having a slow redemption when they rejected changing outright in freniemies even when given a chance to change for the better and shown they could? They came to understand the pain they give others then and yet still decide to stay wicked. I wanted to see grogar too and I disliked discord in that s8 ep. But discord being at fault for attempting to help even tho he was being extremely stupid isn’t the same as the trio being intentionally cruel and wicked for the sake of it.

U can’t look at this situation and twist it around for them not being at fault for trying to rip off a babies wings so they can take over a country for selfish reasons NO absolutely not it doesn’t work and is completely illogical. “The writers made them hateable” BECAUSE they ARE the villains of the story. Im not even upset with u, I just don’t understand how anyone how fan bases can look at poor spike here who we been with for 8 seasons compared to the trio having 2 secs of a possibility of being better and not be like screw them whatever the cast decides for them they’ll have it coming. This is why I try to stay away from fandoms

Because that wasn’t how they were being treated in the earlier episodes. Every-one thought they were having a slow redemptive arc. The show actually got us to like them, and then suddenly made them act worse than they ever were during the finale in order to hate-sink them. This resulted in a lot of fans becoming confused by the finale. It was like they provided the conclusion to a different story than the one I had gotten invested in.

Further, their final fate undermines a lot of the shows teachings. Discord’s plan was to use them to “boost Twilights confidence,” so he’d actually been setting them up for destruction. That’s an evil plan, period. Yet, the ponies easily forgive him, and even let him decide how to punish the beings he had manipulated to begin with! And no attempt, no honest attempt, is made to either try to reform them or even appeal to them to stop. Even when they’re defeated, they are given what amount to a G-rated execution. The scene is incredibly disturbing to watch, and makes the Sisters look more vindictive than righteous. Moral: Vengeance is bad, unless you’re a good guy. Then it’s okay.

I don’t mind people liking the finale. This really is a YMMV situation. But I think you can see now that fans have some understandable criticisms about the shows ending.

Lets get one thing straight the villains crossed the moral event horizon here by trying to rip off spike wings and kill them which they would have if someone didn’t save them. They sealed there fault i don’t know how anyone can reasonable watch this and go poor them. Discord and the princess punished monsters who wouldn’t change and have crossed the line into irredeemably to deliver justice and to keep equestria safe.

I’m surprised Chrysalis would want to destroy the Mane 6 instead of capturing them as a source of love to feed on.

My thoughts exactly. The ending felt like a non sequiter. They did such a great job getting us to side with the Trio against Grogar, but then suddenly made them the villains and tried to make them as hateful as possible. That wasn’t the story I had gotten invested in at all. Perhaps G5 will address this.

Speaking of G5, I really like it! But the ponies forgetting all about Twilight’s lessons and hating each other again almost makes it seem like the Trio had a point. At the least, the fact that they had such little difficulty turning the pony tribes against each other indicates that there was a lot of underlying resentment that Twilight and friends failed to address. They were too busy calling the battle “Equestria’s great stand” instead of examining the foundation Equestria stood on…

I do like what I’ve seen of the movie though! I like Izzy best so far.

I don’t even get why Chryssi would give Spike the hostage back… The moment you give him back, exactly what stops the Mane 6 from teleporting? Man this whole ending was awful. From nerfing Sombra, Chryssi and Tirek to hinting how they were learning friendship, just to petrify them when they’re defenseless and Discord was the one that set it all up.
