Background Pony #1AF2
Season 9 premiere: “A good leader knows when to ask for help, but a great leader has the courage to admit when they’ve made a mistake and the strength to make it right.”
Mid-Season finale: “If we ask for help, it’s just like admitting we’re not as good at the job as Luna and Celestia are.”
Well obviously the same rule is applicable in both situations, but I don’t find it at all difficult to believe that they wouldn’t necessarily make the intuitive leap that the lesson from an event that pitted them against a resurrected villain and threat to the whole of Equestria would necessarily be equally useful for a glorified swan party.

It honestly can be something difficult to learn, even if technically you’ve already learned it once. Twilight and her friends are so used to handling situations as a group that it’s a legitimate challenge to remind themselves they’ll have to delegate more of this stuff. And in a way I’m kind of glad they did have that happen more than once, since it makes it feel more like an actual learning experience.
