Also I should correct myself it’s not about the shape it’s about the depth put into the city made by the artist, which I am commenting that she decided to use flat shapes, with no sign of city depth in terms of what’s happening in the city and what it’s inhabitants are doing. Combined with the fact that it’s a black and white comic, makes the backdrop just an eyesore to look at.
Miami, where cities are built into the beaches.
I am god
I agree. I’ve read a few graphic novels in my time and I’ve always noticed how the artist would take a “minnimilist” approach to potraying massive cittyscapes. It helps to give the definition that you can see something, but from far away.
A lot of painters use a similar technique, like Bob Ross for example.
Read the story more, you might find out why.
Also, aren’t most cities that size just rectangles and squares? Where do you live that cities aren’t rectangles and squares?
Last panel dash literally says: “It ain’t Canterlot”.
It’s funny because I had this whole predicted backstory planned out in my head about how she used to be apart of this elite spec-black ops unit that was once under the service of the Lunar guard only to be betrayed by them when they defect to Celestias rule. That is just before the “known” terrost headquarters turns out to be nothing more than an orphanage and finds out that her team is killing every man, woman, and child in the process.
(thus inciting some pretty traumatizeing PTSD flashbacks)
She ends up coming accross Pipsqueak admidst the carnage. While trying to sheild him from harm she asks her commanding officer why only to find that she would take the blame for the deaths. She shoots her C.O. In defifiance before anyone can react and scoops up Pip in her arms and makes a mad dash towards the nearest window all the while evading a hail of bullets in the process. But not before hearing someone stating over her ear-com that charges had been set. Before she can crash through the window a bullet hits her in the back and she falls towards the ground whie still sheilding Pip in her arms. The charges detonate and the entirie building collapses on top of them both. The next day Octavia emerges from the rubble with an unconscious Pip in her arms.
(During this part I can just see Tavi with this dark, stone-cold killer look in her eyes.)
But yeah I was trying to make it more detailed in my original draft post but I goofed and ended up having to start all over.
But in case anyone is curious, Pip does not die in the blast but instead ends up in Tavi’s care. (I chose Pip for this scenario because of the bond that he and Luna shared and it gives Tavi a kinda’ve means of redemption)
I understand that this isn’t my story, but I could just see something like this happening in a set universe like this.
Like her old unit comes into the city, kidnap Pip and she just goes on a effin’ warpath! or something similar.
Again I had this way more fleshed out than it sounds, so I appologize if it sounds kinda half-assed.
“Suck it up, buttercup.”
