Remember Starlight, when you were evil you were channeling your anger into your magic.

Hey, you can always use homing magic beams! I would’ve expected Twilight to think of that at some point.

If only there was a way to spread magic over a wider area instead of a single spot. Their horns are like rifles, but they need to be shotguns when the need arises. A magic spreader would increase their chances of at least something hitting their target.
 
Or they need to learn to lead their target and make sweeping motions.

It’s not like we should expect someone who’s trained all his life to be a warrior to be any good at defending himself in a fight, right?

I like to maintain that both Twilight and Starlight are horrible fighters on account of being scholars more than anything else. The only reason Starlight was able to keep up with Twilight was that Twilight was already terrible at fighting in the first place that their brute force magical skills kept them at a stalemate. Oh sure, they can belt out magic blasts and shields, but they lack any tactical acumen or aim. Someone like Shining Armor (I.E. someone with actual combat training) wouldn’t have much issues with Pharynx, even if he isn’t as good of a mage as Starlight.
